Firing gun from boat - illegal?

OK, now you really have me confused. What's the diff between a gun shop and an FFL dealer?

An online FFL like any of the websites like cheaper than dirt or the like. Sorry I should have qualified that. To your point a gun shop is an FFL dealer.

Edit: Some states don't let you buy any hand gun or even a riffle online. MD allows you order through an online dealer to a local gun shop to complete the purchase.

... They are not registered in MD. I specifically asked about this needing a HQL because I don’t want to walk in and have them confiscated. ...

I should have qualified that if you have a BOS prior to 2013 your fine with those guns only. But the BOS needs to travel with them. But like I mentioned some ranges don't really care about that. Anything 2013 or after requires an HQL, but be prepared, if stopped, to go through a long stop and possibly loosing them until their check has been completed. Then pick up later.

EDIT: Also, the MD HQL is only a four hour course with a test. Very easy if you pay attention. The CCP is a bit tougher. A two day course is required with a test. Both require finger printing.

You MD guys sure do things in a funny way. Out here we don't need to go to a state run course to buy a gun. We do have a background check that requires fingerprints the first time, but after that your background check is simply where they run your name/DOB through the NCIS computer to see if anyone has a warrant for you.

You don't need any kind of CCW to take your gun to a range unless you're carrying it concealed. I go to t he range about every 3-4 months just to make sure I still know what a target looks like.

I guess I do! 10 shots, 15 yards, rapid fire. upload_2023-3-26_18-33-49.png

I believe in all states you can buy from an online dealer but it MUST be shipped to a local FFL where they will process the paperwork, in most states a 4473 background check.

Out here you can buy a weapon online but it has to be received on this end by an FFL dealer and they do the background check and the 4473 and for that they usually charge about $25.

Yeah, some states are down right impossible to get your permit to buy a hand gun. Most of the north east is that way. Long Island NY is next to impossible. MD is quite easy compared that and has only become this in the past ten years.

Nice shooting!

Nope, not all. NY for one won't allow it. Unless it's changed in the past five years

That's BS. In the end, it makes zero difference as the local dealer is the one doing the transfer....you can be denied and it has to get sent back to the online seller.

Interesting to see how each state has their laws setup though...

Yep, can't buy ammo online either in NY or the lower counties from west chester on out.

Very glad I left there, no regrets on that move.

Just crazy. I have a brother in CO...he can't buy ammo online either. It's hard to beat buying it in case quantities and letting UPS lug it to your door...

Just to clarify the original question.
As Sky noted...

Unless otherwise exempt, as of October 1, 2013, a Maryland resident must possess a valid Handgun Qualification License before he/she may purchase, rent, or receive a handgun. Details on exemptions may be found below. You do not need a Handgun Qualification License to own a gun you already have. The Handgun Qualification License is only needed for purchasing, transferring, or renting a regulated firearm after October 1, 2013.

Here interesting take on NY, was texting with a guy from NY on Gunbroker, He will only ship to an FFL dealer. I said in MD for black powder no FFL needed, just send to me. He said he cant because unless it goes to an FFL, it stays registered as his and goes against the total number he is allowed to own. So I passed on that one.

I was [this] close to registering last month, then decided I'd rather get back into black powder than modern arms, so I never followed thru. Amd concealed is not my thing. I could see me pulling out that hogleg on Pratt street.
"Thats not a gun, this is a gun".

Yep anything from NY has to be registered period. And also very limited on what can be done online.

CCP doesn't mean you need to carry it with you everywhere or even at all. It does allow it to be in the car with you always and loaded and not separated ammo and gun and in the back. You can also have it in a bag with you etc.

I am not the guy who will walk around with it strapped to my waist. Not that guy at all, but I do go fishing off shore in FL (keys etc.) and wanted a way to transport it legally and also have it loaded on the boat in a bag. And that makes it legal. I have multiple CCP's to be able to drive to FL and take it concealed in a bag on the car/boat. Still lot's of issues off shore in FL at times.
