- 2018 Sea Hunt 255se w/Yamaha 300hp
Sharon and I just completed our first mini-trip on 25' Sea Hunt. We left Port Richey, FL on Friday morning in glassy seas. Our first stop was Egmont Key, a well-known island in the mouth of Tampa Bay, about 55 miles south. We travelled there 'on the outside', meaning we were on the gulf side of the barrier islands. Along the way we had dolphins swimming next to and under the boat and spotted a couple of sea turtles.
We spent a few hours there swimming and exploring and then started to head off to Sarasota, our final destination. It was a little choppier and windier but we stayed outside again to make better time. Arrived at the Hyatt Sarasota Marina at 4pm and checked into our room. Overall about an 90 mile run.
Saturday was spent hanging around Sarasota and Siesta key. We'd done this before so no new revelations but still fun. Spectacular meal at Sage Saturday night.
This morning we headed out at 8:45 but stayed inside, between the mainland and the barrier islands until we got to the Tampa Bay shipping channel. From there we moved outside again and stopped for brunch at John's Pass. After that it was smooth sailing back to our home port.
Overall, a perfect trip. Now I need to start thinking about leap-frogging down the coast to destinations further south.
