Installed new lower shift cable Alpha one gen one. When selecting reverse i spin the prop clockwise and it locks in reverse. When I spin the prop counter clockwise I get a light ratchet action.
When I select forward I rotate the prop counter clockwise and it locks into forward gear however, when I spin the prop clockwise I get an extremely firm ratchet action.

My question is does this sound correct or am I engaging forward gear too much? I am about three hours away from splash and I do not want to tear up a drive I just put a boat buck into.

I am at the 6 inches for the barrel. Followed the procedure to the letter. Twice.

OK, then go back to my first comment.

I have it adjusted evenly now, thank you!! Heading to the lake now.

For future reference, could that have caused a serious issue if it was ran like that?

No, not likely right away based on what you have said. But eventually you may have trouble getting into gear and grinding the gears.
