Hi guys,

I have a 2006 SD 240 w/5.0 Bravo 3. The boat is new to me and as with any used engine I come in possesion of, I do a thorough service and freshen up.

Had her out for a test run before I started any work and it struggled to get on plane and didn't want to rev past ~3000rpm at WOT even though it started and idled very nicely. So I figured it's fuel or spark. Changed the filter and disk in the CF Gen3 (which didn't look too bad BTW), but couldn't find a traditional fuel/water separator plumbed in anywhere. Did these boats not come with one standard? We don't really have a condensation issue here in Australia, but doesn't seem right to be missing.

If any of you have added one (which I plan to do), did you just plumb it in between the electric fuel cut-off valve and the CF module? Did you mount it on the firewall or somewhere else?

BTW it ran remarkably better after just the CF filter change and pops right up on plane and revs well into ~4500rpm. Engine has about 420hrs and seems well looked after on the surface. Will be changing oil/filter, plugs, leads, distributor cap and rotor as soon as they arrive.

cheers,
John

Water collects in the black cup on that cf3 unit and works quite well. You don't need to add another one

The filter you changed IS a fuel/water separator. You're good to go with what you have.

OK, good to know. I've never had that CF3 module before. I appreciate the responses.

I kinda prefer the older style spin-on filters. But that's what comes standard on the Mercruisers, now. It comes like that right from the Merc factory
