I recently purchased a 2007 Sea Ray 185 Sports - when taking the boat for a test run i turned the ignition key and an alarm sounded, the seller said this was normal and to turn the key further and the boat will start - which was ok. Everything worked well so I bought the boat. I took the boat out for the first time yesterday and initially the key wouldn't turn in the barrel then finally did. We were on the water for around 3 hours and on our way back an alarm sounded which was the same as the ignition alarm. I wasn't sure if the engine was over heating and I should have turned the air blower on for longer? Has anyone had the same problem.

Percy, nice boat! Your alarm will sound for one of three reasons. Low oil or low oil pressure, engine over heat or low lower unit drive lube. You need to figure out which one and get it squared away before you use the boat again.

Thanks Stingrayaxa - I'll check it out

You have an issue with your ignition switch - replace that first, as it needs to be done regardless. Plus, it may be the reason (flaky switch) the alarm sounded while the engine was running.

As noted above, with your particular engine, there are only those three things that will cause the alarm. Pressure and temp can be seen on your gauges - however, both of those systems have a secondary sensor that drives the alarm. Drive fluid is easy to check. If the fluid was just recently changed, that could explain low drive fluid as air bubbles worked their way out. If not, then there is a leak - in which case, do not run the boat again till it's found/fixed.

Definitely change ignition switch first
