The boat I just purchased came with a KVH C3 Satellite dome. I was unable to test it during purchase, and it will not run. It powers up, and goes through a self test where the dish will move up/down (elevation), but it does not rotate (azimuth). I am not sure if it should rotate during self test. It stays in one position and exhibits a shaking motion. In plugging a laptop into the serial maintenance port, it states "No RF Signal Present" among other information (below).
Does anyone have the latest program for Direct TV system, or have any suggestions? I just don't want to have someone look at it to possibly tell me it is DOA.
Thank you!:smt100

One thing jumps out at me: 41N X 71W is out in the Atlantic south of Cape Cod so a bad position might be impeding the antenna's ability to find any satellites. It's been a while but I think there is a way to inject a position through the serial port so you might try to do that with an accurate lat/long. Also, you might check the azimuths of the satellites you need to use and see if those are accurate. Do you know if your unit has an internal GPS or does it rely on the boat's nav system. If it's the latter, your GPS and compass may need to be turned on in order for the antenna to get its position.

The boat was was relocated from NV to MI, but shouldn't the dish perform a scan before determining a new long/lat may be required? No separate GPS is required.Great questions though! Thanks!

Make it easy on yourself and call KVH, they're pretty good at answering technical questions over the phone.

I know you can make the dish scan the entire horizon to re-learn where it is. I can't remember how to do it, but its in the manual. I did this for a friend only to find out that the dish wasn't hooked up to the receiver.
