Under 500 hours? Ballpark 25 hours per year? That boat will have more problems from sitting all the time than it would have with 1,000+ hours on the clock :)

My two cents - ignore engine hours entirely. Have oil samples evaluated, have the compression checked and move-on with your purchase decision. Gas engines can reliably run thousands of hours in spite of what you read on the internet. Just ask the charter fishing guys. Again, my two cents only.

Respectfully, I would not ignore engine hours. 25 hours a year is plenty, especially if spread out. Plenty of high hour boats get run like the devil for 2-3 months and then sit the rest of the year.

And there are also plenty of high hour boats that are very poorly maintained.

I definitely agree with the compression and oil analysis. Also, closely evaluate maintenance and repair records.

I would be very hesitant to buy an older, complex boat (actually, any boat, but especially an older, complex one) if I did not have reasonably good mechanical skills. And, I would be trying very hard for a freshwater boat. Salt water boats require far more maintenance, and many folks simply don't do it.

But in a nod to my esteemed colleague, Mr. Stee6043. A big issue with low hour boats can be in the ad listings themselves. Many guys have low hour boats they haven't actually seen in ages. And since the boat looked good when they used it, they assume it is still in great shape, and assert so in the ad. However, a boat sitting outside in the water deteriorates whether used or not.

Thanks guys, been boating a while and very knowledgeable. I appreciate the input however… that’s what I’m looking for.

A 320 MAY have 6.2's most have 350 MAGS, I owned one with the 350's to make that boat preform properly the props have to be changed to 18x18 DQX.( I did that and the outward response is significant.) The 340 will not have 6.2's most have 8.1's I would caution anyone purchasing a 340 with 6.2's

I know the 340 will have 8.1s that’s why only under the 320 I specified the 6.2 motors.
