My boating done for year

Horrible situation for you both. Hoping for a quick and full recovery.

Sorry to hear, but seems even with her injuries she was lucky. Hope she has a speedy recovery.

saw Deb today, no surgery needed. In hip pain, still running brain tests every 6 hours. Wont be out for a few days. Will need a walker and physical therapy.
Pics. The last pic is interior, you can see how armrest encroached into seat, Hyundai needs to work on that. Sorry they sideways, not in mood to fix.

Thinking of you guys. Those pics are mighty impressive, and not in a good way! I'll have a Diet Coke, or two, when I'm at Tolcehster next weekend for you.

So sorry to hear this news.

Sending best wishes, to you both !

BEST !

OP, best wishing for a full recovery and still getting a little time on the water.

IMO regarding arm rest encroachment, it's really a function of size of vehicle and weight. I would expect most vehicles in that class will fare about the same.

Glad she's not having to endure surgery on top of her injury! Life can change so quickly but hopefully it won't be too long before your all back to normal again.

Not sure how I missed this post but wow I'm really sorry this happened. Sounds like she's going to heal up okay though. Prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

My ex-wife was T-Boned like this at a traffic light as well before we got married. She had a brand new two-door Saturn coupe. Stupid kid without insurance in a truck hit her. When I looked at the car I had no idea how she lived either. Broke her back, her pelvic, some other injuries I can't recall but she did have a full recovery. It took very long time and lots of anxious moments to start driving again.

Regarding lawyering up, I worked in Auto claims the first two years out of college. If the driver has insurance, they accept liability and they're working with you, I would not be quick to lawyer up. Most insurance companies do not treat you the way the lawyer commercials suggest they do. Any lawyers going to get one third of a settlement, don't forget that.

Some attorneys will take one quarter if they settle out of court. Choosing an attorney is as important as the attorney themself.

Holy shit. Hyundai really needs to add some beef to the side beams. Glad she doesn't need surgery. Hate getting cut on.

Document her condition each day. It will help with any treatment that may be needed in the future.

I'm not a lawsuit person but in this case I'd be talking to Morgan & Morgan

I am very happy for you, that is what your experience leads you to believe.
I'm guessing that things have changed since you were two yrs out of college, as the entire industry now seems to revolve around dodging Liability. Go back far enough, and everybody pretty much honored what was 'fair and reasonable'.
That seems to be gone with the wind, much like Common Sense.

It would be quite foolish to overlook the fact that the Ins Companies report to stock holders, and by necessity pay out BIG claims at times. The only way they are able to do this is to cheat, slight, and/or underpay somebody along the way. As a casual observer it looks to me like those people are the ones that are 'under represented' (a radical understatement). Anybody is more than welcome to dispute that premise at their own peril.

Like PG, I would much rather opt to make every possible effort to avoid anything involving lawyers.
Still, there are times when it is the prudent thing to do whether we like it or not.

They may well take a third, but that is their incentive to increase the number,
which ultimately is for your long term benefit and well being.
Their 'number' is irrelevant in the big picture, and not worth getting a heart-burn over.

Those pictures are crazy. The T-bone must have been at 40mph. I am actually pretty impressed with how that little Elantra held up. The door is only pushed in less than a foot. That's pretty good. 20 years ago any car on the road would have been crushed in to the console. I hope she is recovering well. Side impacts really rock your system and joints and bones, even if they don't break.

Man I dunno. Id say the high strength steel in the A post, cowl side, and B post saved the day. Those areas of cars are loaded with high tensile strength boron these days. That looked like a tahoe or suburban? That 2.5x the size of that car. Kept that vehicle from fully entering the passenger compartment.

Regardless glad she is going to be ok. Sheetmetal can be replaced, loved ones cannot

I couldn't agree to your last comment more. On the side beams, I was just thinking back to my Volvo S60. The side beam was a 8"x4" hi tensile box beam that could have withstood a any T bone situation. But those are different cars. Was not trying to disparage anyone.
