Snapping turtle won...

DSC_0525-2.jpg

$600 surgery....

It was a big turtle... about 18" across.

Mercy! Those things are mean.

her ear is sandwiched in between two silicon plates and then all those do-dads are poking through her ear cartilage to keep blood from pooling in the ear after they operated on it... they sewed her ear to her head then... for 3 weeks...

hope she gets better F S;
our sarge dog got in a brush up this spring with a couple of coyotes and ended up with a broken tooth and a couple of puncture-bites.

we got off for $130 vet bill and sarge didn't show near as much wear and tear as your pup

Broken teeth are permanent.. My wife would have wanted to get it replaced and spend $2000.

Poor guy. Don't you have two dogs? Where was the other one to look out for him?

Wow that's no good. Is this the dog that was run over a couple years ago?
Hope she feels better soon. That could not have felt good.

Wow that's amazing...I hope your buddy recovers soon. Was it in your yard? I've had them in my yard before nesting but they never bothered with anybody. Ric

My female Golden is the one in the picture here. The male Golden was the one run over by a truck. I don't know where the male was during this... she was just curious I guess and stuck her nose were it didn't belong...

Those things are really deadly! I saw one about the same size, break a 1.5-2" branch with it's mouth! It ended up in my Aunt's being-built house's concrete basement when the turtle tried to find a place to hatch it's eggs (my aunt was building 50'+ vertical up a bank from a river)

It must have fallen into the cellar, either going to/from laying her eggs(we found other nests around her yard). She was hissing and all attempts at removing her were in vain. But, she was nasty tempered while alive! She ended up with a .22 bullet and the neighbors cooked her up as soup.

I feel sorry for your dog, that looks like she was in a lot of pain! Thank goodness your other dog didn't get involved too!

The cocklebur (the seed from the weed) inspired velcro....a snapping turtle inspired vice grips. How will you keep her from scratching the wound? She's a pretty dog, even with the punk hair cut.

oh man.. saw the title and went ooo...then I saw who the OP was and thought OOOO nnoooo.... seeing the pics.. owie owie.. I hope the puppy drugs are as good as the ones you were on after the uhh.. well I forget which accident of yours it was Gary.. but hope he bounces back up quickly.

Those things are definitely vicious, I came across one on the golf course one day (about 1 foot around) and in the process of pushing it into the woods it bit THROUGH a broomstick. Gotta love pets and the bills they bring with them.

There is an interesting lesson I think I have learned here...

"If an animal does not run from you when you approach it, it probably means it can beat the sh!t out of you."

We should be taught that by the age of 2. One of my previous dogs, a husky, approached a goose in the driveway and I thought "why isn't that bird running" only to watch it beat up my dog. Those things are big AND mean... But I am smarter now for their actions.

That saying probably is applicable when approaching a woman as well.

Wow sorry about your dog...hope she heal up quickly and is back running around soon.

Bummer, I hope she gets better soon.

When I was in college I had a pet snapping turtle. My wife's father found him. He was about the size of a quarter when I got him. I use to carry him around it my shirt pocket, then he got too big to do that. But he was very very friendly, and playful.
