New boat prices

I was at the boat show last month, talking to the Sea Ray dealer. They sold 3 new 320 Sundancers at the show ($500K). That was shocking. They aslo had a 370 DA at the show .... msrp 1.2 MIL but boat show special price was $990K o_O

Yeah there certainly is a lot of disposable income out there.

Boating use to be enjoyed by the masses and now it is anything but that.

Unfortunately we know the story all too well. Soon this will all come crashing down. I just hope there's enough pieces to rebuild it all back. The used market is still off as well. I'm looking at side-by-sides right now, and they're as much as a car or small SUV.

That's a stupid comment. That comment says I have so much money I don't care. So screw you. If that's not what you meant, that's how I read it.
I think what he meant is that there are still plenty of people who can afford to make the purchase and that want the boat.

I also read it this way. For me, half the fun is taking a well cared for used boat and bringing it up from there to make it mine. Now I am a Great Lakes guy, so nice used ones can be found. My last boat, a 28 Bertram FBC was 20 years old when I brought it up from Lake Erie and a much better 37 year old boat when I let her go. Hope to do the same with my 1999 370EC going on year 2!

I took it that way. Plenty of people who have money and will pay it. So if you want to play you got to pay.

I get it, just didn't like how it came out. I actually agree with @sbw1 to a point. Just not the way it was said. But to each his own.

The reason I have the boat I do is because I like working on boats and this is quite comfortable and affords me the option to upgrade as I see fit.

Not what I meant. The US economy is HUGE. New boats have been selling for decades. There will always be a market for them.

My bad, I took it wrong I guess. Sorry.

I will say, traveling to south Florida, and seeing the harbors there is a HUGE amount of money being spent on new boats. Boats well in excess of 100’ long and even the smaller ones. Someone is (or has been) clearly buying them. Talking with industry folks, there is a shift going on this year, much like the RV industry tanked last year, there is belt tightening happening. Previously where dealers had no inventory for 2+ years, prices skyrocketed because of manufacturing costs and availability. Now, many dealers are getting flooded with inventory, unsold 2023 models and can’t or are running out of room for 24 models.

We have owned a few new boats. I have always bought them when the country was in recession or during periods of economic uncertainty. My last SR, bought new, was a 1993 37 Express. Jimmy Carter slapped a luxury tax on boats retailing over $100,000. That pretty much shut the industry down until the tax was repealed. The boat I bought sat in the dealer's show room for more than a year. When the tax was repealed, I bought it at a lower asking price so the dealer could get rid of it.

Uniquely crafted, the 2024 Regal LS36 merges our luxury yacht series with our sporty bowrider series, making a game-changing new product. This comfortable bowrider is perfect for going out onto the lake for a smooth ride or hosting friends and family on the weekend. Meanwhile, north of the border…….our woke green leader instituted a “luxury tax” on boats, aircraft (and cars) of 10% value over 200k (despite the evidence from the US experience, they did it anyway). And then you apply the 13% Ontario sales tax to the sale/luxury tax total…….do the math!
I have serious concerns where our country is headed, and not just financially, but that is another thread.

You guys probably should be raising a bit more cash these days. Eventually you're going to have to build a wall of your own :):)

Anyone know what the cost to dealer is compared to cost to end purchaser. If you watch programs where people pitch their start up company and explain there cost of production to retail cost it is some times a factor of 4.

Honestly if someone is willing to drop $1 to 1.5 million on a new boat ……who am I to say they shouldn’t?

A boat is about what you want and can afford. I personally would not buy a new one unless I hit the lottery and a new boat would be down the list after some crazy travel and a move to Florida.

I'm more than happy with my 2:15 weekender but would like to go up to a 26 someday maybe those prices are incredible

That’s the reason I left Canada for the US…. Unfortunately socialism is taking over down here now

I think this is why Im struggling so hard about getting rid of mine. Replacing it isn’t likely with anything new worth having for weight and comfort north of 250k

but my operating costs across the board are up like 40% and I’m feeling the squeeze. The middle class dream is dying a slow death.

To replace what you have for new would be around 300-400K. The really sad part is your interior space is probably as big / bigger than the current dancer 320. They really gutted the inside for a few loungers on the front.

All observations noted in this thread are true and the answer is the stock market.....Im sure you've heard that markets are hitting new record highs every day?

The boat market is aimed at educated folks who are well invested and continue taking HUGE gains in their investments be it equities, bonds, real estate etc. etc. etc. I think the reason we are so appalled is because we (CSR) are already boat owners and we, more than most, have a strong sense of the real values of our floating paradise! But make no mistake, it's all about the value of your investment portfolio. It's not disputable.
