Well
Not sure I feel better about I/Os over outboards. Both Mercruiser and Volvo want the boat pulled every two years to keep up with the I/O Drive maintenance.
Well up here in the "Great White North" of the Great Lakes... the boat gets pulled every year anyway...

I think when you get into 35+ inboard V-Drives should be an option. Sterndrives are fine for smaller boats that are generally stored out of the water. My last two boats were sterndrives, stored dry and no problems with the outdrives. Leave those things in the water, especially salt water and the maintenance cost just spirals.

It seems that everything mid 40's and under these days is sterndrive since the advent of the joystick. I'm always surprised to see how many big boats are sterndrives when I visit the storage warehouse in the winter. Even the small diesels in the volvo packages for the 40-45 footers are sterndrive joystick boats it seems (Cobalt a40, for example)

I'm okay with I/Os in fresh water......salt water.....no way. Just too many things to go wrong.

Maybe I am just to used to working on go boats and the weak link to every one of them is the drives on the back. Seal failure, case failure, gear failure and the list goes on.

I received a promotional e-mail from Sea Ray on this new sterndrive.

For me it's either OUTBOARDS or DIESEL INBOARDS.

In the long run, nothing else makes good sense in terms of what's practical or safe.

Especially if you spend any time on the hook.

The 37 has lots of amenities, but somehow looks stubby and kind of like a clorox bottle, IMHO.

BEST !

The looks of the 320 and 370 don't appeal to me very much, however the layout is very nice. Also, based on two 320's I looked at at MM, I'm very skeptical of the quality.

Yes, one was 1.5 years old and the second was new on showroom floor.

First one had trim coming loose and passenger seat moveable backrest was extremely loose and very difficult to reverse.

The new one had a blue hull and the waviness down the hull where the bulkheads meet the sides was terrible. This was really obvious since we'd just looked at some Tiaras and Formulas.

This is a good sign to me... big Sea Ray cruisers with sterndrives coming back!?! Like to see it with V-Drive's, but we'll see. Of course with V-drives, you can't provide the cool joystick mode that all the new rookies want :)

You could get the joysticks with the V-drives in the 400 sundancer. I looked at one a few years ago that had they joysticks.

I have a 2021 320 Sundancer with triple outboards. I am very happy with it, no quality issues so far. We just made our first trip from Marco Island to Key West.

Buddyg, that's very interesting and something on our to do list in a couple of years. Would love to hear the details about your trip
