I just found out that both places that could do a pump out have winterized their systems. Our tank is 28 gallons and was emptied recently. I imagine there are 3-4 flushed and no #2 action. Am I ok over the winter? Could I, or should I, just add a few gallons of -60 antifreeze to it? Or do I have to figure this out? I could always travel further to find a place. It seems like there will be plenty of room for expansion and odor shouldn't be an issue (we use NoFlex religiously).

We are lucky in the fact that our Yacht Club has its own honey wagon pulled by a yard tractor. The thing isn’t winterized until ALL the boats are first. Might wanna suggest that to mgt!

For that little bit, I would add a couple gallons of Rv antifreeze and go with it

Do you have a macerator?

End of season, lots of guys go 3 mile off shore and run the macerator, add some AF, and run again.

Definitely at least 3 miles out

I hate to say it but I agree.

Find some of the -100F RV antfreeze and use maybe 4 gallons, run in by flushing through the head. Better safe than sorry. Its hard to find replacement tanks and get them fitted to your pumps/lines without it being a major PIA and quite a bit of $$ if you crack the tank.

4 flushes is about 2 quarts, give or take, plus the water in the pee. Totally and absolutely fine to leave it as is. Think about that volume compared to the size of the tank. However, since you still want to flush AF through the toilet anyways, it will end up being "even more" fine. If you're worried that you'll be thinking about this all winter then go ahead and add another gallon through the pump-out fitting and sleep soundly.

Upon further inspection there was about a 1/4 - 1/3 of a tank of water/waste. The marina I am hauling out at it will do the pump out...for a great deal of only $65. Ugh. Lesson learned for next year!

I know it's $65 - but try to think of it as cost avoidance/savings if your tank/links are damaged. You just saved yourself hundreds of dollars, plus you still got to use the head a couple times.

Good point! I am just $55 and a week too slow. I could have easily done it when I got fuel I just forgot. Oh well...its cheaper than a busted tank, thats for sure!

You still need to flush some antifreeze through after the pump out. Maybe a gallon flushed from the head to the tank. That $65 will give you better sleep over the winter. It would have been in the back of your mind till spring.

Yep. I agree. Done and done. 1 1/2 gallons flushed last night after pump out.

My marinas was not working when I went to pump out last time. Fortunately we had a trip planned the next weekend and that marinas was working. It was 3/4+ full. We used it 2-3 times afterwards so I added a full gallon of the pink stuff when I winterized.

Quick question everyone. This fall we upgraded from a 23ft Penn Yan Outrage which was in my family since new, 1995, to a 2004 300DA. I’m in love. Anyway, the old boat only had a porta potty which was simple. The new boat with multiple sinks, gen, AC, and a real toilet has us very excited but is very intimidating. Since the boat was purchased then winterized and wrapped I’ve had little to no time to familiarize myself with the systems. Besides reading and asking questions. With regard to the waste tank. I ordered the Noflex which I will use on a regular basis after reading some positive reviews on the forum about it. My question is how do you know when it’s full? I saw a gauge on the main panel in the cabin with a rocker switch but I think it said water level. I assume that’s fresh water level correct? How about the waste tank? My father in law has an RV and it has several gauges like that with rockers, one for water, grey and black, and propane level I think. I can only find one on this boat.

Appreciate any responses. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

My boat has a set of lights to the left of the head/toilet. First one is 1/2, 2nd is 3/4. Mine started working again after 4 months of noflex.

Welcome aboard, GT!

This will make a lot more sense once you get eyes and hands on everything. Speaking of which, you could put a zipper shrink door in the shrinkwrap and access the boat. They're cheap and easy to install.

But, in the meantime, there is a separate control panel for the waste system in the head. It's a small panel and has a key and a level indicator on it. Depending on whether or not the float switches in the tank are gunked up or not, though, will determine if it actually works. NoFlex should help with that. Worst case... just go into the bilge and look at the tank. If needed, a trick is to put a flashlight against the side of the tank and move it up and down - you'll find the level that way.

I'd encourage you to read through your Sea Ray owner's manual, as well. There's info in there about each system. If you don't have the originals, you can download them from SR's site.

Tip... don't look at/think about ALL the systems together. Take them one at a time.
