Official 215 Express Thread

Half of original coating has flaked off over the years but it’s very solid and operational.

How much water should I expect to have in bilge with this boat? I had the bellows done in spring. Should I expect it to be dry other than what rain water finds it’s way into bilge?

Well we’ve had pretty regular rains and I pump out a gallon or so afterwards. Does not seem enough to to kick on the auto bilge pump. But location of it always leaves some sloshing around. I’m pumping/!soaking it all up tonite and going to see how she does over next 4-5 days which are expected to be rain free. Need to know what is going on.

Sopped up everything last nite that bilge pump could not get out. This am there was a very small amount of water in bilge. So I ran engine to see if that would produce more leakage and did not see any significant additional water. So…I’m thinking may have some slow block leakage possibly from a drain plug or a lower hose, or possibly some intrusion from gimbal housing gasket. That’s all I’m focusing on for now. Have heard the latter can be dealt with by sealing with a marine silicone the entire outer edge of lower unit housing where it meets transom. This assumes my mechanic did good job with all new bellows back in May. I’ll talk to him soon. He’s serviced this boat for last 8 yrs.or so.

The exhaust Y-pipe flange where it connects to the transom assembly is a known source of corrosion and leaks.

Thanks, hope it’s a simpler issue but good to know it’s suspect. Would that pipe leak with engine running or not? Would that tend to drain block then with engine off foe extended time ?I’ll try to at least eyeball that area. Did seem like some wet toward rear of engine starboard side above bilge that could be making its way down into it.

Well found a leaking exhaust manifold elbow drain plug. Hope that’s only source. Will replace tomorrow. Maybe clamp the hose to reduce flow while I do that? New to me stuff..

Another source is the steering pin seal. Usually can see it coming in at the steering arm.
My B3 had the notorious lose gimbal ring.

I had an unknown leak last year. Taking in 2 or 3 gallons a day. Saw some evidence of water leaking at the steering arm. Rebuilt the steering pin assy (JB Marine kit with S/S pin and all OEM arm, bushings and seals) this past winter and now not 1 drop drains after garboard plug removal after all day out on the water.

Did you ever find a source for hatch support parts? I’ve got one stuck as well. I haven’t tried to attack it yet but a parts source would be nice to know.

Wow these bilge exhaust vents I got on eBay from Searayman are quite nice. Mine were brittle and faded, ready to pitch. Nice refit.
So I tried to look up Searayman on eBay and only found lots of shirts. does anybody have a sellers link?

So I have the two up and down buttons for power trim of outdrive on the throttle. There is also a trailer button. Does this just raise it higher for loading on trailer or will this lower the unit also? Maybe dumb question but seems like it’s just a one way push in button under a rubber cover. Thanks for insight.
