Just closed on my new to me 2003 280DA T4.3 A1 this morning. I take delivery on MONDAY :smt038

Loaded minus Gen. Can't stop skipping around.
Had it surveyed last week and it passed with flying colors. It's in the water and only needs a new cup holder on the port side cause it has a little crack in it. Other than that, Brand new condition.

5 months, near disasters, 20 boats viewed, and a crash coarse in boat buying. Wanted to thank everyone for their help and wisdom and FrankW for his incredible support.

I'm sure after monday i'll be asking a million questions.

Let the videos begin.

TurtleTone - congrats from up the Hudson! Looks like nothing but sunshine and a balmy 50 degrees on Monday. Enjoy the experience to the fullest.

Congrats Turtle.....let us know if you take a ride south into Jersey waters this summer....

Congrats!

Let me know when you take a trip up here on Long Island sound.
Good luck with her.

Well I just got off the water and I'm beat :smt015

The day started off cold and windy. Arrived at the pickup marina at 11am and we put on the canvas glass(only used once!!!! so it's basically brand new and stiff from the cold. So after laying it out a little in the sun to soften it a bit, we put it on. Took about 1/2 hour.

Loaded his dock box on the boat (one less thing I have to buy, loaded with fenders and hoses etc...), Cranked up the engines and headed into the Hudson for our trip up north dodging all the ferries until we hit the GW Bridge.

By this time we have about 20mph winds from the north and we're cruizing along at about 30mph with the whole hudson to ourselves. I'm playing with the drive trim and the trim tabs to get the hang of them, The seller and friend are drinking beer and looking for floating telephone poles (I bought them a ton of beer to show me he ropes).

About an hour further up north we stop at a buoy to practice my touch and goes, needless to say it was a good challenge in a strong wind and current. Spent about an hour at the buoy without banging into it once. Once we were all comfortable, we decided to go top off the fuel as we burned a little more than 1/4 tank so far and we started with about 3/4 . looking for the marina, bets were starting as to what fuel dock was open. we head into one marina and pull up to the fuel dock, no one around, maybe that's why they didn't answer the VHF call. Pull up to another marina and it's open. By this time I'm getting a little cocky with the docking thing. Fill up the tank (Welcome to boating, please leave your wallet at the door).

Head back down the Hudson a little ways to my marina and pull in. Well by this time the winds are really blowing, current is strong and as I turn the boat around, the wind is now hitting the aft and the canvas is now a sail. Panic has now set in and all my cockiness leaked down my leg. Basically I looked like someone who just jumped off a bridge and halfway down decided it was a mistake. I'm working those twins this way and that way, luckily the marina was pretty empty. Someone cleaning his boat sees my obvious inexperience in these conditions and runs over to give a hand. finally I hand the controls over to one of the other guys as I wasn't getting to far and didn't want to scuff a basically new looking boat. Back in and tie her down. whewwww, that was exciting.

Went and bought a pizza and went over all of the systems. Put the rest of the canvas on and locked her up and drove home. Dropped everyone off at the pickup marina and just walked in the door about an hour ago.

I was handed a bag that weighs at least 20lbs filled with manuals. I have a lot of reading to do this week.

Praying for light winds this coming weekend.

Sounds like a great day all in all. It reminds me of my first cruise to my slip with my 270.

BTW - Last year I started feeling cocky and that I could maneuver anywhere, then when I arrived at Block Island, I had to turn the boat around in a crowed marina. The wind took my bow right into the anchor of a 40 footer :smt089 . Ouch (see gel coat repair posting  )

Anyway - I am glad you new toy is home!

All in all sounds like a pretty good day TT. I know what you mean about the "cockiness" thing. Even after you get some experience you will still get knocked down a peg or two occasionaly in the future. After seven months of ownership with my 260DA it still happens to me. Last week with a strong wind blowing it took me three times to get my DA backed into the slip and even then it wasn't gracefull.

Read those manuals and enjoy the new boat.

Congratulations Turtle! Sounds like a beautiful boat. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy :smt038

Congats TT :smt038 She looks great! May the winds be calm and the sea's flat upon all your adventures! (especially when docking  )
