Simply Brilliant. Blue illuminescense in the water at the stroke of a finger, flick of the water off of a wet finger, or waves of blue when walking by on floating docks.

John that's about the coolest thing I've seen on CSR yet.

Is this common? How large an area does it cover?

Very cool, lots on youtube

I think some of our jersey water must have made its way down to you in Florida John...Might be best to wear gloves next time.

Very cool! Must be the same stuff that Tom Hanks character in the movie Apollo 13 referred to when recalling a night landing without lights on an aircraft carrier. The ship's props stirred the stuff up, providing a visible trail for him to follow back to the ship. (who knows - it may be based on truth)

John, That is really cool!!!

Wonder what your wake would look like @ 3800 rpms???:wow:

Where we boat in Maine, I've seen this many times... but never like what you posted. What I usually see is more of "sparks" and they're green instead of blue. That's pretty cool to see them like they were in your video!

After watching your video, I started googling. You know what? It turns out one of the reasons those little guys might have have been glowing is because they're... ummm... well, horny.

It does follow the boat for quite some distance. About 10 years ago, when returning home from dinner on our 250, there was a strange glow about the boat. It wasn't moon light or shore lights. I stopped and looked over the side. There was some green lights in the water around the boat. When we got back up on plane and looked over the side, the entire hull was lit up in a green glow - like from outer space or New Jersey or something.

To put it in perspective, it was brighter than underwater swim platform lights.

Come on! we can remember Tom Hanks but we can't remember Jim Lovell??????

I think Jim Lovell was also the Command Module Pilot on Apollo 8, the first mission to orbit the moon in 1968! or was that Tom Hanks?

Indeed it was Jim Lovell. :smt001

Ashame it's been what...38 years since humans have been to the moon? And the best we've done since is just on the fringes of space. Anyway, I digress.

I was on the deck of an aircraft carrier in the Atlantic at night a few years ago (pitch black, watching satellites orbit the earth) and occasionally saw this glow in the water. It wasn't very bright...but then again we were 70 feet above the water. That's a pretty neat video...

I admired Captain Jim Lovell when I was an NROTC Midshipman in the '60's at Vanderbilt. After graduate school, I went on to become a Naval Aviator and retired as a Captain in the Naval Reserve 30 years later - thanks to a lot of people helping me - one of whom was Jim Lovell.

I didn't make it into the astronaut program - as three of my squadron mates did - as I chose a career flying for Delta instead...I would have liked to think I could have...but I was glad I was not in the cockpit with my shipmate Mike Smith in January of '86 when Challenger blew up under him at throttle up.
