Portable ice maker

They seem to be around $220 to $250, and then I found this one at Walmart.com:

It was $120 - priced over $200 everyehere else. It has worked great for a year.

We bought the "Igloo" countertop portable ice maker, $99.00. Worked very well all last year. Haven't used it this year yet but it's probably paid for itself 3 times over. Ice at our dock is $3.00 per bag but the ice maker is a must when we're anchored for more than a day.

dont you guys have enough ice over there at present?

I bought an Emerson from Target on sale lasted 3 years before acting goofy.Take out the addition warranty for just a couple bucks and you're covered.between my cockpit unit and this I can make around 40lbs a day. Cold beer indeed.

You're hilarious Ianbat. In the old days they'd hitch a team and go up to the frozen ponds or down to the lake with special ice saws. They would spend the day cutting blocks of ice and transporting them back to storage chambers that had been dug into the ground and lined with sawdust. The ice blocks would be placed in there between copious amounts of sawdust, and that would be the ice supply for the ice chests during the summer. According to the old timers, this method of storing guaranteed them ice throughout the summer and fall months. It usually gets into the high 30's (high 90's F) here in the summer for a while too. Now we just use Igloo ice makers.:smt001

Will that Wal-Mart Igloo ice maker make enough ice to keep a couple of coolers full? one of the reviews says if you have 2 drinks on the rocks per hour that is all it will make??? just looking for some real-world input.

Friend on mine had one and it would make about 2 drinks of ice per hour maybe. The ice was not a very hard ice either and melted rather quickly but if you ran it all night you did have ice for the morning/afternoon. Of course this is FL so the summer heat I am sure had something to do with the output. He took it home and we never saw it on the boat again.

No, it won't fill a cooler. Mine takes about 3 QTs of water and in two hours will almost fill two one gallon ziplock bags that I put in the freezer for cocktail ice buckets...Seems like it makes 12 cubes every 8-9 minutes...

Wet,

When I'm using mine, I set it up on the counter on the galley, next to the range. When I've finished making two gallon ziplocks of cocktail ice, I store it in the aft stateroom on the floor.
