Hello,
Working on my 1970 SRV 190 with Mercrusier 165HP Alpha I outdrive. I have lube on the shaft and splines as well as the upper drive housing and seal. I am using a chain hoist, I guided the drive shaft and got it started {O/D is of course engaged in forward.} The O/Drive slides in but stops with about 1 1/2 inches from seating. What am I doing wrong? the prop will not turn so I believe the shaft is engaged to the coupler. I have checked the enginealignment, as I just installed a fresh engine. Please any help would be great.

Stuck with a 1 1/2 to go!!!!!

If the gear linkage is not hanging up it's probably the o ring seals on the shaft. I have had them hang up before... Sorted it with my right foot and a karate kick.

Thanks, annie
I have thrown a few t-kicks at the upper gear housing with little or no effect. I my take the unit back out again and see if the driveshafts may be kinked and not alowing the drive to go all the way in.
Anyone else have any ideas!!!!!

I did use a extra front stub shaft and checked for equal clearence at 12,3,6,9 oclock seemed to be within a 1/8 inch on all sides. Didn"t see the point in spending the hundred bucks on the tool. I inserted the stub shaft with the ujoint opening in the 12/6 and the 9/3 position to check for alignment.

Thanks for the input. MIke

We are talking about the gimble bearing to the engine right? How ling is this stub shaft?

Hello Again, The stub shaft is from another Alpha outdrive which is the same as the one on my outdrive. It is the splined shaft that couples to the C/V joints and goes into the engine coupler.
Thanks, Mike
