I finally picked up one of those ProMariner battery chargers. 12-20 I think. Anyway, anyone have any tips, suggestions or what not on the installation? It's on my list of projects over this long winters nap. I have an 04 300DA.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have the factory one now. It's original to the boat which is 20 years old now. Trying to be proactive instead of waiting til it takes a dump. I know this is a pretty popular upgrade. Was just wondering from people who had done it what tips or advice they had to offer. I had reading installation manuals.

But you're right. In theory it should be simple. That's what scares me. Lol

One tip - turning off your battery switches and/or solenoids is not enough to isolate the batteries from the charger. You should actually disconnect the batteries at the terminals before you start, in case you didn't already plan on that.

Aside from that, it's got to be one of the easiest boat projects ever :). Swap wires one at a time, mount it, drink a beer.

Yeah. I figured as much as far as disconnecting the batteries. Would've liked to not have to mess with them, but you're right, it's the safe and correct way to do it.

As far as the beer, yes, great call, couldn't agree with you more. Lol

Read the instructions. If you don't understand anything please ask.

Yes should be an easy swap but may not be exact. Most new chargers have separate case grounds, do not skip adding that to your ground if there is one on your new charger.

As mentioned above, disconnect your batteries and your shore power (at least turn off the charger beaker).

Make sure the wire is clean and make sure the connections are tight.
