Having an erratic problem with my Ray220 VHF Hailer. Press the mic button to transmit and sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. I can tell when it doesn't b/c the signal meter doesn't jump when it's not working. Interestingly, after I bought this boat I found a shiny new 220 in the bilge, with no mic. So I'm guessing the previous owner bought a new (probably new "old stock") just for the mic.

Has anyone replaced this unit completely with something that fits in the same rough opening??

I have not. But, mine did the same thing. I took apart the connector end and found three of the wires broken off their terminals. I sent it to Raymarine for repair and $75 later I had a perfectly working mic that was also cosmetically refreshed.

That sounds like an alternative. I'm thinking my problem is in the micro-switch for transmit b/c it doesn't seem to be related to movement of the coil wire. But if they'll be able to refurb whatever the heck it may be that would be great.

Did you go through the website or a phone number? Did it take a long time for turnaround?

Thanks Bill.

Before I bought new dash panels, I cut a piece of black starboard, screwed it to the panel and cut the correct sized hole for a new radio.

How'd that look? Got a pic?

I boxed it up with all the information they asked for per their website. Then I followed up with a phone call to Linda, their service rep. Her contact info is here: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/41258-Raymarine-215-microphone-cord?p=832682#post832682

It took about two weeks.

Thanks Bill
I left a VM for Linda earlier today (got the info from the RM website). Waiting to hear back from her.

Sent it in to Raymarine. We'll see what the autopsy reveals.
