Anyone tried a good method of removing the plastic type coating that’s coming off in big pieces and recoating with something acceptable? Thanks for any suggestions.
 
Take it apart and bring it to a local powder coater.
 
Thanks for suggestion. I tried a you tube method letting it sit in a vat of Kleen-strip overnite which proved quite useless on whatever gg Schmitt had on there, and contrary to results the poster had on his powder coated metal frame. Anyway found a local shop that will media blast and powder coat for very reasonable cost of around 100. So I’ll post a pic of results if totally gorgeous.
 
Came out great - I'd recommend doing this vs. tracking down something new if you want to retain original look. Local powder coating shop blasted off remaining coating and powder coated in color of my choice. Installing new nylon washers where they fit between the sections and under bolt heads. Old ones were brittle/cracked or gone. FWIW
