Had a wonderful first weekend out last weekend with the admiral and little girl. Coming in on Sunday wind kicked up and it turned into a very challenging docking situation. While my wife got the truck and trailer, I deployed fenders to briefly tie up. The dock we tied to had a section where the bracket holding a lighted post had broken off. I didn't see it, until I heard it.
End result, nice little scuff in the Gel. I was reading some past posts and was just about to pull the trigger on some color matched Paste repair from Spectrum Color.com. I was wondering if anyone has used them and what their impression was of the product and color matching?
I know its an older boat and wont be perfect, Im looking for close without having to mix my own. Thank in advance.

I've used the product on a 10 year old boat and it is practically invisible. The key is getting the proper color part number from Sea Ray. Send SR your HIN and request the color code. Then send the color code to Spectrum and they get the match.

Hey spectrum is 5 minutes from my front door(for real) so if you need help I'm here.......

Great. Thank you for the feedback. I will get my order placed today. I will definitely be using the Baggie trick and will shoot some before and after shots. Thanks again guys!

I have found that their application charts are not very accurate. Most recently, I bought a Whaler 15 ft Dauntless and needed to remove a trolling motor which left a total of 16 holes to fill. I ordered the gelcoat paste by HIN# and the color is no where near the deck color. I called Spectrum, got a girl on the phone who says "Use it anyway, those things always darken with they cure." Now I have a perfectly smooth deck with ugly yellow spots on it. I'm out of time, the boat has been moved to Florida and I'm going to have to pay the fiberglass guy at the marina to shoot the gelcoat spots with the correct gelcoat.

In going back thru this, I have found that Whaler used 8 different colors, all some form of white, on their 1996 boats, yet Spectrum only shows one and swears it is right for all '96 Whalers. After investing most of a week in plugging, filling, epoxying, fairing, sanding, gelcoating, wet sanding and buffing only to find that what I have looks like somebody spilled yellow paint on the boat, and I'm going to have to pay someone to fix it, I am done with Spectrum Patching paste products.........I hope you have better luck and performance from them than I did.

I used it on a whaler that I purchased and it was an exact match. The color wasn't any of the whites that Whaler used though, it was the "desert sand" color. I had trouble even picking out the spots that I fixed!

I found the colors match, but the shelf life is less than six months. The product gets rock hard in the jar even though no harder is added.

I must say, SeaRay is an impressive company all round. I emailed them at 7:30 this morning with my information for the color of my gel. Its a 22 year old boat, in less than 20 minutes, I had an email telling me my color, color number and the Spectrum reference number so I can simply order offline without talking to anyone. Impressive customer service.
I am anxious to get the paste and give it a try. For reference, if anyone has my same model boat and year, my gel coat number is arctic white, paint code #953-WA-101. The Spectrum number is #1411. Thanks again for all the reviews.

Just wanted to pile on and echo Henry's comments above. A few years ago I pulled a real bone head move installing my GPS mounting bracket on the dash. I left the sliding cabin door open, so when I drilled through the dash I also drilled into the cabin door underneath. I found out about this stuff, from this forum I think. I got the correct color code info from Sea Ray, and it matched perfectly. The repair is completely invisible. Excellent service by Sea Ray and great product. Hope you have a good result too.
