Springtime shine 2024

I'm still a couple weeks away from launching so I'm taking my time with the topside. I don't know why I always save the worst part for last. Waxing the hullsides is downight enjoyable compared to this crap.

One/two more trips out and I'll be ready to hit the water.

Looking good. What are you using pad and product on the topside? Especially getting on that darn nonskid

I agree, I did mine last week. Topsides are the worst. My back and knees are sore for days.

I have a kid doing mine below the rubrail. After launching I will have him get the top side. He is doing a fantastic job so far. I forgot to get a picture.

I use Smoove products. I compounded the whole shot 3 seasons ago. So last season and this season I'm only using Bubble Gum on it (light polish w/polymer wax) and continue to be very pleased.

I use Presta pads. White when compounding, green when polishing.

Ok I tried to use a wool pad on mine but it doesn’t seem to get done in the surface. Was thinking trying to use more of a brush type attachment but I know I’ll have compound mud slung everywhere

Use the edge of the wool pad and not the surface as usual. Yeah, it will go slow since you are using a small area of the pad but it will get in there better.

+1
You have to use the edge of the pad... and yes, it is a slow go.

Yeah, like the others have said I'm generally holding the polisher at maybe a 15 degree angle, ish. It's hard to get any kind of bite if you're holding it flat. If you get a decent angle you won't need to apply pressure, the weight of the tool is enough to get it done.

I put a bit of polish on the pad, I run it in a circle 2" or so from the outside edge. I rub it into the area I'm going to work (maybe 2' x 2') without any power. Then I run the polisher at 800-1000rpm for maybe 2-3 passes in both directions. Then I crank it to 1,400rpm to finish, another 2-3 passes.

Perhaps also worth noting is that I'll go through 3-4 pads in the time it takes me to kill two 5Ah batteries (2-3 hours). Once they get glassed up a bit, I switch to a fresh pad. When a pad is fully loaded, it will not polish anymore.

My marina removed the racks i was on and went with the floaters like yours. Not there yet.
Do you have room on the sides to walk around it to put cover on?
Can you drive onto it or do you pull it on with a bowline?
Before I commit to it, i want to make sure zodiac fits.
It actually sucks. This year the new floats have rollers. So when you drive up onto it your outboard hits it. If you go into neutral you roll back off. So I had to leave it in gear and jump out with a rope and tie it to the dock…. Stop the engine tilt it up and pull the dinghy up onto it

Last year the docks didn’t have rollers so the dinghy stayed on it

No there is no room to walk around to get the cover on. You learn to do that standing in the dinghy working back to front

Not happy with new owners. Nickel and dime everything. But i like my end of pier full length slip so i stay.
New owners at my marina are doing the same. They sent out an annual invoice, which we paid in full in December for 2024. Then in March they said they are raising the rate by $350 per year and are charging us monthly for the difference. I asked what was the benefit for paying annually and they said there is none. Then I had my boat detailed in March and they instituted a $25 charge to outside service providers (the marina does not provide any services besides gas) to work on a boat. When I questioned them about adding that charge after they raised our rates, they told me it wasn't a charge to me just to the service provider. The service providers are just passing the charge through. But, the dock is 100 yards from my condo, so I'm not inclined to move my boat to a marina I have to drive to.

I've actually got one of the signs pre-Safe Harbor in my garage. Liberated it from a dumpster one rainy October day the year they were acquired....
I’m trying to buy a boat there. Was there last week on Thursday….. the lake was beautiful gorgeous day
