Starlink

Funny it went up to 45 for a bit but then back to this shit. I am about to say F it and just get a marine set up and pay to play.

Unfortunately that is the only option at this point.

Here is the question Grant - If you spend the money and fees to do that upgrade what do they provide in return? It seems to me the wording in the contract gives you nothing much.
Many people started with high expectations and initially got great results but the service degraded and rules morphed. I'd step in also but the system just isn't deployed enough to meet expectations.

Batel isn't bad and has serviced us in the past. And, now for less cost than SL.

Better today….but my cart is loaded and one click away from just ordering the marine unit…

Tom, I don’t disagree… Starlink early adoption is on us that play the game. Last year I did Aliv from Bahamas and could do it again… but it was never great but worked. I agree maybe this is too early to give a shit but I would like to think this is the future and it will get better for us boaters. It really just boils down to how important is the internet to me… well it is as my job depends on it and that is what pays the bills so I can enjoy Boating. So if upgrading to a plan that allows me to have internet anywhere I guess the price is priceless… Hell I am about to pay $7 bucks a gallon for diesel again this year what am I worried about to pay extra for gigabytes.

Did you upgrade your account? If not, Then up and down, good/bad service will continue regardless of the hardware.
No upgrade yet…. Guess I will do the international Roam plan for my trip to Bimini next month and see how it goes.

$7?! Damn. I assume that in the Bahamas. I filled up a couple weeks ago, was $4.49, down to $4.29 this week. Hoping for sub $4 this year.

A perk of being a Safe Harbor member, they're offering fuel at cost this year, currently $3.10/gallon.

The plan you need to get in "Maritime / Mobility - 50GB" that is how it will show up in the upgrade pane.

And then there is the theory that continuing as a customer is revenue for them to continue their mission. Which I'm on board with also. The thing is the transparency indicative of the owner seems to be missing.

Just a s possible warning, I found a few articles discussing the power limitations of using that POE injector that I had issues with. It seems that certain conditions can cause the array to draw as much as 130w and the Injector is only capable of 96w. This may in fact be what happened to me and why the injector blew. Most of the discussions surround in motion use but one discussed just at the dock when this happened.

The newer maritime dishy is setup for the extra power and would need to remain un-modified to use it correctly. based on what I have been reading, redit and panbo comments - NOT FB post's, there seems to be an issue with the 12v conversion and a limitation of existing less expensive POE injectors. It seems that POE++ may not have enough power to support this thing in some conditions.

Not sure if there is validity to this or not, but this would certainly explain what I went through.

Here is a question - rather than POE, why can't you simply power the board with a robust power supply and bypass the POE. You'll have to run a pair of wires to the dish and locate where to terminate/solder but what the heck. Just get and use a good MeanWell power supply for a 110V use or a buck/boost DC to DC converter if on DC. No doubt the POE injector cleans up the power supply so you probably will have to pay attention to the power source. 200W sounds like a lot but probably a good target.
It was suspect to me that they paired the POE wires in the ethernet cable; that is why I was proposing in an earlier post that the dishy used quite a bit of power.

So that is exactly what needs to be done. Somewhere in this recent mess of post's, I posted that the ethernet adapter has two sets of wires in wires in it and I posted a pic. of those wires. If those wires are used in leu of the injector, then it should be fine I would think. I also posted before that the voltage pinout with wire color needed as well.

you seen this?

That was really cool. The boondocker PS-POE adapter look like the right thing to go with. Higher power then the other one so it won't burn out.

Good luck with your endevor Grant.
