Every 10 years they draw the lake down a total of 132 feet to perform maintenance on the gates.

The famous Long Point... you can see the water line for normal winter pool (75' down) and on the rocks, the summer pool level.

You can see the marina off to the right (dock house has a green roof).

Wow very cool...

What happens to the fish?

We have a lake they pull the plug on every year. It's always a shock to see them so low. And then full again in the early spring. The things one could find in the mud.

Thanks for sharing.

Yep, pretty amazing, from winter pool, it usually fills up within two weeks when they put the plug in 1st of April.

Detroit Lake, here in Oregon, takes a lot longer. With the river filling it from normal run off and snow melt, around a month, month and a half. But it's drained over 100' every year. It's been a couple of years for us going up. After the fires they had that ran through the town after dark, I try to stay out. Only one ramp has been open and it's been a cluster frick, so I stay away.

Where do the non trailerable vessels go? As in 40'+.

Those boats just dont show in these lakes here. And now even the smaller ones that are over width wont be around. They closed the highway to anything over 8'6" . At Detroit, everything gets pulled. All of the docks end up 60' above the water line and a few hundred from the water.

Biggest cruiser there is 37 to 40 foot and they get hauled out. There are 3 or 4 50 foot house boats and they hauled out also... usually by mobile home movers.
