switched + and - cables when charging

I had a dumb arse attack tonight...I put the + cable on the - terminal cable and vise versa and then plugged in the battery charger....noticed it made a funny click sound and then I unplugged the batt charger and connected the cables correctly. My ? is...did I screw up my battery?

So now I have another ? - if I am charging 1 battery with a charger and the battery switch is on both am I charging just the one the charger is hooked up to or is it 'trickling' over to the other battery?

If your charger is of modern design, its internal protection systems shunted off the power. The battery would be UN affected in normal SNAFU situations.

The bigger question is, was any equipment connected and turned on damaged? And then what will you do different to make sure you don't do this again at a time when really big damage could be created?

Everything will be fine with your battery and electrical system. If you heard a click you have a newer charger and it detected the reverse polarity on its output and shut down.

If the switch is on both you are charging both batteries at one half the output of the charger - assuming they are the same size and type batteries.

You will chrage both batteries with switch on both. You did no damage to the batteries, you may have damaged the charger but it sounds like the breaker within kicked out.

If you put your batteries in backwards.....does the horn suck instead of blow?? Also, does the radio listen? What about the lights, do they shine dark??

thanks for the replies...I was hoping the charger had more brains than I did...and to answer some earlier questions - I didn't have anything on the boat turned on or running when I did this stupidness....

Will a bad fart filter smell good? What happens to the blowers? Are the speakers good listeners? I should introduce them to my wife. Will the fridge act like an oven? It could be a cheap substitute. Maybe the television will actually make you go blind.
