Brian Shul…..May 20, 2023…..not an everyday name but a legend in aviation circles..famous for his talks and apppearances describing what it was like flying the SR71…what is also remarkable was his recovery from being shot down while flying in Vietnam, badly burned, but coming back to fly this one of a kind aircraft.
His most notable anecdote became to be known as LA Speed Check.

That hurts my heart. First heard that story a long time ago, possibly read about it on a Usenet news group.

I live in Dayton, OH, in the early 90s was driving by Wright-Patterson AFB when the SR-71 was coming in to land at the Air Force Museum. I pulled my car off to the side of the road and watched the airshow the plane put on for 20 minutes, which I assume was burning off excess fuel before landing on the short runway at Area B. I can still feel the sound from those engines.
