My own soda blasting starts Monday. 450DAI was thinking I could talk my kids into packing a towel into the shaft log on the outside to slow water JIC the worst happened.
I signaled retreat and scheduled a haul today after messing with the port seal and two sea trials. Tempted to do both seals (again) while we're out. Also, contemplating biting the bullet and having the bottom soda blasted and getting new bottom paint. I did not have that in my budget this year.
Highly necessary in my case due to previous owners not taking care of it correctly.
Also handling 3 small osmotic blisters, ranging from a quarter to a lemon in size.
Although Sea Ray engineers named the 1990's 450 "THE ICEBREAKER HULL" all that underwater real estate needs to be properly protected.
Properly applied, that epoxy barrier coat will protect the biggest non-replaceable part of the boat.
Not going to put mine off.

Soda Blasting Her Bottom
Made the decision to soda blast the bottom. Have 3 small blisters to repair as well - will use West System & Collodial Silica and fiberglass cloth (if needed) - no stranded mat and no micro-balloons. Closer inspection showed numerous chips and adhesion problems on the bottom paint. Lots of...
