The official "Stray Current II" thread. '07 260DA

After having her name scrubbed by shingles during hurricane Ian, I finally have it all buffed out and renamed!

That is pretty cool. I was expecting to see some tats on your pasty white forearm, or maybe black fingernail polish.

No stir, just funnin with ya. I do like the decals, not joking about that

I don’t mind, not like I haven’t been hamming that up and trolling it along for a few weeks now just to mess with a few people who sent me nasty messages.

Despite being monsooned upon, I think I finally have my water ingress issue locked up!

I can't believe I never saw this thread. I was moving while you were first starting it so maybe that's why. Anyway, nicely done.

I read through this last night, very impressed with your diligence to getting everything right. Great upgrades as well. Love what you did with the dash. The boat really looks sharp.

EDIT: Nice stereo choice BTW. :D

Thank you. It’s definitely been a labor of love and a little maddening at times. I have this thing about equipment, If it exists, it has to work 100%

I’d love to do a “from the Yanmars up” restomod on a 390 or 460 like yours. My favorite era of SeaRay. Which reminds me I need a powerball ticket…

Do you have a build or update thread anywhere?

I should have done a build thread but didn't. Instead I am spread all over this site and a few others, but mostly this one.

The closet I have is the 460 thread in the classic ray that was Started by @Jeff Evans , but I kind if dominated that thread. He went over with his friend and started their own project website.

But here is what I have on here with links to the other projects at the end:

I shall have to poke around and look. That’s definitely a beautiful boat and one of my favorite models ever made.

Thank you. That style is unique before they went with the softer curves.

I’m not sure if I mentioned it in this thread or another, but I had some carpets made by a local carpet shop either last year or the year before. They couldn’t get a Marine grade berber so they recommended another outdoor carpet that they had. It’s very light weight and stretchy. However, the guy said the rubber backing he could put on it would not last when exposed to salt water.

Since I figure my dog holds about 9-10 gallons of water when he comes back on board after swimming, it would obviously be soaked regularly. The whole reason we have the carpet was for the dog so he doesn’t slide around so much.

Well, needless to say, lightweight and stretchy carpet without a rubber backing doesn’t work well on gelcoat. I had read about people using flexseal to create their own rubber backing, so I figured I’d give it a try.

It’s a little early, but I’m going to assume this one was a dismal failure. I’m pretty sure it bled all the way through in certain spots. The material is just too thin and light weight. Not to say that the flex seal wouldn’t work on a proper heavy berber, but definitely not on a lighter weight carpet.

The moral of the story is, there is a reason the custom carpets cost half of the manufactured carpets. But if they work to keep the dog from sliding around when we take him swimming, it might not be terrible.

And as an afterthought, if you are going to flexseal your existing carpet, leave the snaps in. Remove and replace after the product cures.

That’s about what I expected. Didn’t think it was gonna work, but it was worth a try.

That's awesome. I'd like tackle that on mine this winter because it is very annoying to me at the moment that there is always a small amount of water down there. What ended up being the culprit for you?

The short answer? Everything!

I drilled a drainage hole on my radar plate, so that water wouldn’t puddle up and get to where the cable sealant is. I think water was pulling in there, and then running down the arch into the bilge.

Stay safe man! My guess is that is not your generator of your choice?
Thank you!

How long and drawn out of a response do you want? As a master electrician licensed in 2 states and 4 brand certified tech I have some VERY strong opinions

My money buys Kohler or Cummins. The fact that I get paid to fix broken generators loves Generac

Easy. Have always appreciated your advice on CSR and your 260 thread is bad ass. I just thought you were a Generac fan?

I could totally nerd out on this and ramble on for hours and hours about the differences of the brands and various features. I started to last night but then the exhaustion hit. Maybe I’ll draft something up and post a thread in the tiki bar with some comparisons

I am Sisyphus, and keeping this drive in paint is my boulder…

Re-splash tomorrow, and a whole 9 days off!
