Tie downs for Dinghy

Well I finely got them done. The aft cable ties are adjustable but once set will not be adjusted. The single bow tie on centerline will be adjustable but very little to tighten it down….. and I threw 2 ratchet straps away….. what a good feeling that was

Was happy to see you have one attachment point on platform for stern as I have same and am worried I needed two points for attachment on dinghy stern.

I have had this setup for a couple years now and no issues. I have good sized backing plates….

Hello all, I have a 2000 510 Sundancer and just purchased my first dinghy, a Highfield 340 with a Suzuki 25hp tiller control motor.
My question is how do you know where to place the dinghy chocks in relation to where dinghy should sit on platform?
Also tie down recommendations?
I have only one tie down D ring for bow and one for stern.
Here is pic of my platform, yes I did just paint the receiving rails for dinghy.
Thank you.

Check out the Hurley Marine website. They have good recommendations and illustrations for proper mounting.

Unfortunately its a game of trial and error. I got lucky and got it down after a few tries. Assuming you have the chocks that fit in the rails you have to ball park their placement. I set mine in place and lightly tighten the bolts. I then loaded the dinghy and adjusted the angles of each chock one at a time. After that you want to run the lift up and down to ensure tubes clear your fixed platform. As for tie downs, once you have it exactly where you want you can try a ratchet strap (stainless with heavy working load rating) to see if you can get the dinghy secured to your liking. If not you may need to add another d-ring to get a X pattern. Hope this helps.

This brings up a good point - The first thing is the dinghy needs to be secure and stable without tie-downs. The tie-downs should not have to hold the dinghy in place rather they should hold the dinghy from moving or dislodging when the boat is moving.
I only have two D-Rings on the swim platform to secure the dinghy in it's chocks. With that said if we are doing a long crossing in the ocean I lash the dinghy with secondary lines to the boat's aft cleats. I just feel better when doing that.

Yes that helps and thank you
