Videos?

Just a bit of info, but I had a JVC miniDV camcorder I purchased 4 years ago. Was not good at all. Had all kinds of trouble with the firewire connection and their support was non-existent. Others had the same trouble as I. Also, the indoor light quality was really bad, compared to a JVC VHS-C camcorder I had previously. I finally gave up on it.

Purchased a Sony miniDV camcorder due to good reviews on indoor light quality. Impressive! Video's look really good with natural indoor light, or normal lightbulbs. Plug it into the firewire port and upload; no troubles. Was like night and day to my JVC.

Maybe they've figured it out four years later. And the harddrive sounds really cool; hopefully it is large. Approx. 12GB/hour for digital video, if I recall correctly.

Just a data point for you.

sony's have always been good with low light. I've got 2 camcorders, ones a big dog with wireless mics and shotgun mics etc... the other is a little palmcorder which is nice for sticking in your pocket. Both are panasonic and i've had good results with them. The hard drive camcorders are nice for loading in to your computer because they are quick.

Suprising that your JVC didn't perform well. I have three relatives with JVC and swear buy them. I think Sony is great too. Either way the HDD camera is what we'll get. The one I'm looking at is 30GB, with up to 7 hours of recording.

Todd,

I looked at the same one tonight at Costco. Looks very nice. The one thing that I have found and not sure if it is older units or not is that several people complained about an E04 error on the JVC. I always check out mysimon.com prior to buying any electronics. Just thought I would share what I found. I also looked at the Sony. I have not decided which way we are going. :smt017 I also looked at some online that will actually record in High Definition but boy are they expensive.

thanks my man!

a few different people took the video, non had a clue. I need to give them a quick lesson on holding the camera steady

that's a railroad bridge that rotates on a HUGE gear. it's the opening from the Hudson river to the harlem river.

Nice Video  I like the shots w/ the dog on the bow and the shot of the dog and fishing pole on the swim platform.. That was the money shot!

Nice video.... ....I remember my first trip around the "island"...I was amazed how different Manhattan looked from the East....Did you catch any strippers???....If you look real close....that's me stuck in traffic on the VZ bridge....coming back from Long Island to visit a buddy....

:smt043 ...we need a spell check that know's what I'm thinking.. :smt017 ....or maybe not!!!

Great job T.T. Your K9 buddy sure seems at home on the water too...

Dom - You'd need lots of $1's to catch any strippers out there  heck with spell check :smt024 it just makes better reading

doesn't take long, maybe 2 hours. once your get into the harbor, the traffic is pretty busy. then heading up the East river is slow going. As you get up into the harlem river, there are a few marinas on the river with no wake zones. Then you have to wait for the rail bridge to open which can be quick or not depending on how many boats are waiting and what the train schedule is. maybe it's more like 3 hours now that I think about it. I must have went under 50 bridges. I didn't know there were so many bridges into manhattan.
