There is a section where the channel goes as far inland as you could imagine, very close to the weeds.

Jack: I know exactly where you're talking about! I was the lead boat heading south (for the first time in my life) through the ICW on our way to All Seasons Marina. That spot didn't get us but I couldn't believe my eyes as I went from the plotter to the markers, thinking all the while, "this can't possibly be right!"

The concept of following another boat didn't help Fishnut above (see post #37) :wow:

LAst year was my first time running aground and BOY did I. It was early in the season up here in NY . I cant honestly explain what happen. There is a pretty good distance between channel markers and I just wasnt paying attention . Was cruising at 30 mph when my wife came up from the cabin and asked WHERE U GOING ... I pointed .... and she corrected my FINGER point .. by the time I realized she could be right and could react i tapped bottom i realized how far out of the channel i was ( about 5' ) i turned the wheel hard over to port and pulled back on the throttles to try and slide into the channel.... NO LUCK she just slid on the sand and gently came to a stop. I had just missed high tide by 30 mins and Boat us advised the wait till the next high tide. AT dead high tide it took 15 mins to pull me out. That was a very humbling 8 hrs... Early march... temp in the 50's my two kids and wife were troopers. Boat us offered to transport them. They stayed with the ship. A few friends came out to google ... Im sure Don when he reads this will post his famous picture. LIKE I SAID VERY HUMBLING !!

Rob

PS only damage other then to my ego was one slightly bent prop.

Someone removed the red marker on the number 1 maker entrance to the Ochlocknee River, it was raining, lighting and the wife was saying choice things about her mother in law's son for his decision to stay out at the island too long.:smt021
I was lucky it was mud, we came to a nice sucking stop. Almost sounded like a slurp. I got out and sank to my knees in black goooy mud!!! :wow: After about 30 minutes of tugging and pushing we got back into deep water.

I was glad it was still raining, it helped clean off all the mud! :smt043

It has been a long time for me, first boat just a short way from dock, sand bar at 20, instant stop, reverse off. Mud in the sound, was going slow, reverse out. Both times was in the late 80's, boat was an 87 SR bought in the fall of 86.

Summary: I'm glad we're in the PacNW. Seems like a lot of shallow water issues in the Northeast. We've got lots of deep water around here. Now that I've said that, I'll find the one spot where it is not....

We've got that stuff all around my bay. It sucks when I forget to trim the outdrive up to the trailer position. Especially when boating by myself. Ill get to the bow to grab the dock and just as I'm about to grab the dock the outdrive catches the muck and swings the bow away from the dock. :smt013 At this point the boat has coasted too shallow and it turns into a wrestling match to try and get the boat unstuck and back at the end of the dock.

Woke up on the beach last weekend. The island sank back into the water (tide came back) as the day wore on. Boat floated back off. No waves, no damage.

A little over 2 years ago, on day 2 of the first 700 miles of 340 ownership, we called a marina for an overnight slip. As he pushed us to a local channel for instructions, he stayed on 16 to let me know I had to motor to the North end then turn back. I pushed to the new channel as directed and missed that little tidbit. 10 seconds later I'm on the sand bar and he's on the new frequency with me. I threw on a shorty, jumped out, pushed us back, and continued on in. I did that a lot on my 250, so it was no big deal. No props/rudders involved.

2 Props / 2 Shafts / 2 Rudders, 3 cracks in hull later......

Yeah - been there - done that :)

about 1 mile from our marina as well - fun day!

And ran aground on a sand bar - no damage - just a impeller.

Read this yesterday. An intentional grounding in the Aleutians. The rescue chopper could get to them, so they had to lower a crab pot to the ground and shimmy down the rope to get to higher ground.

Look at the pictures! Backed that boat right up on the beach! Hopefully he will be able to salvage it.

Not yet! As in "Im sure I will at some point one day".

Our lake is pretty awesome, we are pretty lucky. There are no bad spots anywhere on the 11 or so miles at all that just come up: if you know the lake. :smt001

There is a sandbar right smack in the middle of the lake where lots of people raft up and they play volleyball etc. If you are not from around here, good chance you will hit it if there are no boats up on it that day to warn you. It is literally right in the middle.

Here is a sat view of the area...you can see the two bars.

Other than that, all shores are clean of rocks and shallow areas.

Yeah, that is a pretty wild show. Alaskan waters are a differant animal all together.

But I don't boat in the Bering Sea, I am in Cook Inlet (2nd highest tides in the world) and Prince William Sound (PWS). We love the USCG here!

i ran aground in the great south bay last year soft bottom just outside the markings and just outside zachs bay ,very slow into the mud so just backed out no damage
