HEY SR CLASSIC LOVERS HELP ME OUT! I HAVE A 1980 22 1/2 FOOT OVERNIGHTER WITH A 260 MERCRUISER. LAST WEEKEND ANYTHING WITH A FUSE STOPPED WORKING, HORN,WIPERS,BLOWER,TRIM TABS,ETC. I FOUND A 32 AMP FUSE COMING OFF THE PORT SIDE BATTERY,FUSE WAS OK, I FOLLOWED THE WIRE DOWN THE SIDE UNDER THE ENGINE AND FOUND IT PARTED WHERE A CRIMP CONNECTION WAS INSTALLED. I THOUGHT,EURIKA !, I FOUND IT.:smt009 I RESPLICED IT AND DISCOVERED IT ONLY LED TO THE BILDGE PUMP. WHERE IS THE RESET BUTTON OR WHAT ELSE MIGHT BE GOING ON? THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE. DR

Dick,

STOP YELLING AT ME! Most people don't like to read the "All Caps" style of print. I would continue to search for corroded wiring. Another way to find the break is to use a voltmeter starting from the batteries and working your way down stream until you find where the break is. Set it to V DC, touch the black wire to a good ground (battery?), and touch the red wire to various points along the way starting from the positive side of the battery and then to each consecutive connection (assuming negative ground).

I wouldn't have any idea where to find an overall fuse or breaker in your boat. Good Luck.

Don't know if this will help, but on my OMC from 82 it had two lagre fuses on the back of the engine that fed everything. I think merc liked breakers instead, look around the fuel filter housing on the front of the engine for a red button, that should be your main breaker.

No blown fuses? Open somewhere.

Blown fuses, a short.....

agree with hampton on the caps

Ditto.

If the fuse is OK then you've lost power somehow. Check your connections. Even if they look good, clean and re-connect and see what happens.

There is a red button breaker on the motor. On that year I'm not certain of the location, but it is either mounted on the front of the starboard exhaust manifold (provided it's not a v-drive with the motor sitting backwards) or its mounted on the back of the motor just above the bellhousing. It will reset everything powered directly thru the wiring harness. However, you should question why it tripped. It's big, like 50 amps.
