My company takes college students as summer interns. They learn to work and if they like the industry/company and are good hard workers we offer them a job before they graduate. They then start at the BOTTOM and spend years getting to the point when they qualify to move to managing. If they are really good this would be about 6 years or more.
The kids that want to start in management because they have a degree are out of their minds. Go to school, figure out your trade, get a job with a good company (at any level), show them what you are capable of and move up the ladder. What ever happened to that?
Same with my company. We have staff working all over the globe who have come in as interns, then entered the young professionals program after college and now have meaningful jobs and building their careers.
