Winterizing Engine question?

I have always winterized my engine with -100 antifreeze (after the engines warm up). Then I stop the engines and remove the drain plugs (blue) from the bottom front of my 4.3 mercs. Someone questioned me as to why I drain out the antifreeze

What do you do? Keep the antifreeze in their or drain it out after you run it through the engine?

Last, is their any winterizing on an ac unit? (280 sundancer)
Thanks:huh:

The general consensus is to leave the antifreeze in because it has some anti rust properties. You definitely want to winterize the ac unit. I close the sea cock, unhook the intake hose, insert a funnel, turn on ac, and poor antifreeze in until the wife see's it coming out the discharge. Don't forget to clean the strainer while your at it.

You can also take a fuel line assemly for an outboard (with primer bulb) ,OPEN the seacock insert one end in the out port on the side of your boat place the other in a gallon of anti-freeze and pump till pink comes out the bottom .Doesnt take much.

leave the AF in the motor....as stated above, for the corrosive inhibitors and lubricating properties it offers.

Like captblue3, I've used a similar winterization technique on the AC, but instead of a fuel line assembly, I used a garden sprayer....With the boat on the hard, Remove and clean the strainer, put the lid back on the strainer assembly without the strainer in, Open the seacock, fill the sprayer with AF, pump it up, adjust the end for full flow and put the sprayer end in the hullside discharge, watch for AF to come out the bottom of the hull, replace the strainer. I always left the seacocks open when the boat is on the hard.

Definitely keep it in.

There are a number of recent posts about this. If you have a few minutes, try the search tool and do a "title only" search to make it a little easier.
