Official 370 Sundancer thread

Great info thank you. My water heater is in the cabin under the cushions in the stern couch/bedroom. I will check the connections.

I noticed some hoses coming off my manifolds and heading somewhere towards the bow but I think it's going to the radiator/heat exchanger for the defroster/warm air at captains seat.

Exact location of my water heater

my last boat had the engine looped for the water heater. I loved it, water stayed hot for 10-12 hours after shutting the engine off

One other question for all you Searay370 experts..
My generator.
It starts just fine. Runs perfectly - as long as I hold down the preheat button. When I release the button it starts to shake pretty bad and run really low it's almost like the idle is super low and it's missing or something?
Also I'm not getting any voltage on my ac circuit?
If anyone has any thoughts as to what might be causing the issue before I throw some cash at it. Most appreciated.
I have checked oil levels coolant levels and I am getting water pumping out the side.
I don't think it has been used much I've never really looked into it until now. I really want to get my heater and hot water going etc.
Speaking of hot water. I read somewhere that some of these boats have a heat exchanger with the starboard engine so you can get hot water without generator on? I tested it today, got my starboard engine up to temp and no hot water so I'm guessing I don't have that feature?

Does the generator come good at all or just barely runs?

On my 96 the port engine heats the hot water and the starboard heats the demister/captains heater.
I had to replace the capacitors (it wouldn't show voltage until load was applied) in the generator (simple and easy) as well as increase the rpm slightly to get the frequency right.

It comes on good and runs strong and smooth.

But the second I let go of the preheat button it shakes and runs really rough.

Also I'm not getting anything on my AC circuit when it's on.

Port side engine eh? Hmm I'm on my boat right now I'm going to have a look!

Thanks!

Yeah right, well, as chris said, the preheat runs the fuel pump but also overrides the low oil pressure switch
Since its not shutting down when you let go I'd be checking over that fuel pump for sure.

And yep, the lines go through the bulkhead on the port side of the port motor next to the gearbox

fuel pump, and/or fuel shutoff solenoid for the Westerbeke. Monitor the voltage at the shutoff solenoid, and that is parallel with the pump. In 20 years, I've been through 3 of each. Doesn't mean that's your issue. It's just a place to start looking deeper.

Thanks guys!

I just ran port engine.. It's about 40f here and it took a bit to start. One thing that sucks about the carbs I guess. She always goes eventually once warmed up starts instantly.

Ran the water for about a minute. Still stone cold. I went down into bilge and I can see the heater hoses running off the block and going towards the cabin.

I'm going to pull the seats up and have a look at the heater and see what's going on down there. Maybe it's a valve that is switched off or something?

Good to know about generator thats where I'll start. Is the fuel pump hard to get to?

Not overly difficult, it's on the port side of generator atleast.

Had a look down by the heater.

I have an inch of standing water down in that compartment. Something is leaking from somewhere. Time to get out the shop vac and find the leak. I think I need to pull my whole water heater.

hate to say this, but pull a screw from the heater frame to the floor, and see if water is coming out.

Yeah I read the thread on that issue...

I'll do that in a few weeks when I have time.

Any ideas on where the water comes from?

It's always been pretty dry in my cabin, it's the only spot I've ever seen water

Hi everyone, I just purchased a 97 sundancer 370 and absolutely love the boat.

First, I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to give so much detailed information. I have been pouring over this thread the past few days in an attempt to understand my vessel as much as possible. This has been an invaluable resource for me as I have found it difficult to locate much online elsewhere. I don't have an owners manual and I cant find it on searay's website for this particular model year. ( if anyone has a copy they would like to share it would really help)

I am planning the following upgrades over the summer and I will post pictures as I go so that others who are in my position can benefit from going through this process, its bone stock.

-Stereo system
-Tv's
-Reupholstering
-Appliances

One issue I have run into is that my windlass is not working, the switch seems "dead" no noise or anything. Before I start pulling things apart and troubleshooting I want to start with the simple stuff. Has anyone come across this? Does anyone know where the solenoid is located? Is there a trick to operating it?

This might sound like a stupid question but is there a way to specifically search this thread for keywords? I put windlass into the search field above but it just brought up some stuff in a bunch of different threads, is there not a way to specifically search a single thread?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Nate
How are you making out with your upgrades? I just bought a 1998 370 Sundancer and I am looking to make some of the same upgrades.

Really well!

Congrats on your vessel, these boats are awesome.

Here are my upgrades so far this is off the top of my head I'm sure I'm missing some stuff.

Interior :

- removed both CRT tvs and added a 50 inch tv in saloon and a 32 inch in bedroom.
- Had all interior cabinets wrapped ( I'm not sure what the cabinets look like on the 98 but mine were a white melamine that I felt really dated it)
- installed fusion RA-70 head system (stereo)
- installed two amplifiers under the couch ( I already had heavy guage wiring there from bilge from previous owner.
- installed full LED Rgbw bluetooth strip lighting under every peice of moulding throughout, hidden under cabinets, above curtains, bathroom, bedroom, under the lip of the couch and many more areas...
- removed microwave ( still trying to track down a proper sized replacement)
- changed all my hardware in the cabin
- new curtains for second bedroom I actually found a linen shower curtain that matched my color scheme perfectly ( it's the perfect size)
- removed the fluorescent lighting in the ceiling and put two rgbw remote controlled led projection lights up there.
- put in usb plugs everywhere.
- replaced ac breaker outlet in bathroom

Cockpit

- Replaced all 6 inch speakers with fusion speakers
- added four more tower speakers two on roof with custom swivel removable mounts (so when we're on the bow they can point forward to get sound) and two mounted to the rear bimini cross bar ( wetsound revolution 8)
- made a small fire table that I can store away (drops into old table spot)
- full rgbw led Bluetooth lights under all couches and captains chairs.
- added a dual 20lb propane tank mount to the transom area near the transom shower. ( routed the propane hose to the fireplace through the small hole near transom shower and under cockpit couch)
- installed rgbw Bluetooth led strip lights that face my guage panel
- installed phobe/iPad magnetic mount on dash
- installed remote for fusion sound system on dash
- installed usb plugs into my dash
- installed usb plugs in the rear couch area
- installed blue led cup holders

Engine/hull

- Replaced spark plugs, port side manifolds, batteries, impellers, removed corrosion from lower bilge area motor mounts and re painted.
- had my port side transmission rebuilt.
- sanded bottom down to gel coat and repainted hull with 3 coats of barrier and two coats ablative.

I have a huge list of things left to tackle..

In January I am going to rip out the carpet and put in vinyl wood grain planks throughout. I'm also trying to source some faux teak flooring for the cockpit area. Not the carpet style but the foam style.

If you have any questions on any of the above I am happy to help and there are quite a few people here who know alot more than I do who are very helpful.

You've come to the right place!

Hey nate,

It was 40 degrees C here in AUS today and the A/C was epic, followed by an awesome hot shower to wash the sunscreen off

**Hope you understand a little Aussie humour**

I bought this guy yesterday on a black Friday sale.

Now we can have the wonders of the deep up on the big screen while we play poker

For anyone who keeps the heat on to run throughout the winter but has to deal with freezing temps. I added the two valves with bleeder ports to hot and cold lines that supply the outside of the boat. This lets the swim shower, outside sink, hose bib, and shore supply to be blown out. While keeping all inside working
