    27 people on a 34' boat sinks

I moore in this harbor, about a mile away from this horror. Each 4th, Mr. Dolan, the owner of CableVision (and the Knicks, he has a 100 foot plus sailboat he pulls out a few times a year) has a spectacular fireworks show right in the middle of Huntington Harbor. As you can imagine, a large...

    Official 290 Sundancer Thread

Hey Ron, my switches on the consol went all odd on me also. The hatch button got more difficult to press and the windless just wasn't working. My previous mechanic (what a jerk) wanted to replace that entire unit. My new guy said that there was just a wire issue and was not a big deal at all. I...

    Good use for the boat?

I am hoping to splash late this week. If my mechanic can do everything needed, then I will tie the boat up on a small, isolated dock in Cold Spring Harbor, here on the North Shore of Long Island. I will provision it full of flowers, a nice and hopfully classy meal, a bottle of moderately priced...

    Outdrive Removal

That makes a bunch of sense Dennis, that will help replenish the oils and stuff in the rubber. I will do that also, great tip!

    Outdrive Removal

Thanks Lazy. Theft will not be an issue. One of the yards I have been considering using "needs" to take them off and charge me both to remove them and to put them back on!

    Outdrive Removal

How important is it to remove the outdrives ('06 290DA) for the winter. I had them removed last year after the boat broke from the mooring and spent a night on the beach. All was well then and this season I hadn't hit anything. I'd love to not spend the money to do this but if you all feel that...

    Dashboard Switches

I appreciate your timely baseball metaphor Jedi! Let me be a little more specific. On that bank of switches, the anchor switch stopped working shortly after I purchased the boat last year. Not a big deal as I don't anchor (mostly, though, because the anchor switch doesn't work!). For the past...

    Dashboard Switches

Seems that the entire bank of dashboard switches (including the hatch up/down switch) on the starboard side is shot. The boat is an '06 290DA. Do I need a new bank of switches and is there a supplier anyone can recommend as to where to purchase it? Thanks

    Long Island, Hurricane?

Are you guys/gals going to put your boats on land? I'm on a mooring in Huntington Bay, any thoughts?

    Scratch on outdrive

I got a little aggressive scrapping barnicles off my outdrive (Bravo 3) and put a scratch in one deep enough to see the silver color of the drive. Do I need to address this now or can I wait unitl the end of the season? If so, can I do anything for it while the boat is in the water?

    Documented Boat?

Thanks for the info and suggestions fellas... and no Jitts3, that's the last time I will do something that stupid. As per finding a gal named Ann Darby, you are really limiting my prey James. It looks like the next girl friend will learn that Ann Darby was my dead mom's name, until I can justify...

    Documented Boat?

On documented boats does anyone know if the name of the boat needs to be visible on the boat? Even as I was filling out the Coast Guard Document paperwork I was wondering if naming the boat after my girl friend was a good idea... no, it wasn't!

    Complications!

Sorry fellas, a paragraph really would have been a good idea. I just want to qualify, there was '$10k' for mechanical issues with the outdrives and the same for the damage to the spline. When I saw the boat sitting on the beach it really looked just fine. I do recognize that there were some...

    Complications!

I really need the collective wisdom you guys afford here, I'll try to be suscinct. While I have had my first year as a boater under my belt and have learned much (alot if that wisdom having come from you all), I have a situation. My boat is a '06 290 with 150 hours on it. I treat it with great...

    carpet backing

I don't have any pictures but this I did this early in last season and the backing looks great and nothing is sticking! The top part of my carpet really looked great and now the back not only is sound but the carpets look new. This is the best fix-it repair I have ever done...

    Insurance Depreciation?

My question then is why do they pay us less for anything just because it is 7 years old. On cars they pay what the cost of the repair is regardless of how old it is. As per what happened to my boat, it broke loose from the mooring and ended on shore. You may check a few of my posts on this (with...

    Insurance Depreciation?

I am working out the details of my insurance settlement with BoatUS. They have been very fair, however, my agent said that were my boat one year older (it's a 2006) then the settlement would have been subject to 'depreciation (note, this is for repairs)! I don't know how much money they would...

    Salvage Operation... Really?

The insurance guy gave me an answer very similar to what Henry said. It seems to me that there should be an esclating scale for this type of thing. Had I not had insurance, I would have been able to take care of this myself quite easily and safely. The price paid was simply exhorbatent. The tow...

    Salvage Operation... Really?

This really surprised me. Some of you may remember a few weeks ago my 290DA broke loose from my mooring and wound up on a beach. My insurance company, BoatUS, is doing all the right thing. Although the boat looked to me to be in fairly good shape, they are cutting a check for almost $6800 to my...
