1992 Sea Ray 330 Sundancer Refit and Modernization

This makes me really want to tackle some of the interior issues on my 500. Getting rid of the fabric wrapped pieces in berth and other areas

Removing all the old must and dirt trapped behind the fabric really improved the air quality in the cabin, well worth doing. Ive already used 20 running yards of vinyl and still have to order another 10 yards, so it can get pricey if you dont watch the material cost. The Eversoft is nice quality at only 23/yd, but some brands go as high as $85/yd.

I ordered some samples of softer material to use for the curtains and drapes.

PS: I won't hijack your site with all my pic's and issues. I enjoy following your progress.

No worries about hijacking, I'd love to see some photos of your progress too. Feel free to post or paste anything here, if you dont have a thread.

Great job on the reno so far! I love the cabinet doors, I’ll have to follow your lead on that update soon. I bought a ‘94 330 last summer and have been doing some updates. I first changed out all the lights with led. Here’s the cabin reading lights I used

They look modern but still work well in the boat. Super easy to replace, dimmable, have a blue nightlight (that can be turned off), and have usb charging ports. You can also get them without the charging port. Amazon has coupons for this item now. Cheers.

I little tear out progress on my 96 330DA. Man Sea Ray didn't spare any expense on the staple or carpet glue. It looks soooooo much better every time I remove another piece of that horrible blue carpet.

These are the colors and textures we are leaning toward.

Sorry about the pic rotation.

Your color choices are top-notch! Those stairs are really going to modernize that interior.

Thanks for posting your progress.

Thanks for the link, New Dawn. I have a few of the OEM lights that are broken off and need replacement. I like the LED and usb in them. I think if I changed them all, I could recoup some of the expense selling the old ones for someone that only needs to replace 1 or 2.

As for the cabinet wrap. If I were to do it again, I would probably sand and prep the rounded cabinet door edges, and trim pieces and stain to match the wrap on the flat surfaces. With these older style doors, you need alot of relief cuts to make the radius, and it takes away form the real wood look. Im currently staining the tables and trim boards that are in wear locations with a lot of turns.

On this inexpensive boat, the wrap is great, but on a 50k+ but, I would surely use a real wood, PSA backed vaneer.

That should give you the modern, Spa look the wifeis after. Should look real nice. Mine wanted the "Casino" look, so gloss cherry fit the bill.

Heres some more updates:

I got most of the carpet installed except where it will meet the new flooring, I want the floor in 1st, then bring the carpet down over the floor on the vertical areas.

I bought the subfloor exterior plywood, and I'm, templating it, sealing it with epoxy, then gonna trim out the hatch openings, stair trim, and step down bullnose. The stain and clear that to match the cabinets. The cinnamon flooring will contrast that all.

I also remove the bow area tambour doors, alot of screws, and have them in the shop for some test staining. Im using Old Masters Gel Stain.

Zool, so I was planning to install the vertical carpet 1st then push the flooring into the carpet to get a nice, finished look.

Zool, what did you use to install the carpet with? Make, model, and staple size?

I see your point on the finish floor, so maybe i will try that. Im using 3/8 ply for a subfloor, that I will use thickened epoxy resin to adhere and blend to the verticals, so im avoiding messing up the clean carpet.

So subfloor, then carpet, then the t&g flooring would probably work fine.

The flooring is ready to go in, after i finalize the stain color mix for the hatch frames and border trim. I still have some backrest upholstery to finish and screw back in.

Looks awesome!!!! I can only hope my carpet goes down easily and looks half as good.
Q: why did you install another layer of subfloor?

Partially because the original glassed sole was a little wavy and would take quite a bit of fairing to level, and also I wanted a clean, flat surface to glue the 3/8 engineered flooring to. Thats also why I didnt epoxy the top surface, to avoid dealing with the blush and associated glue issues.

A subfloor is completely optional tho...
