Seems to me I've seen a little discussion somewhere about 268's listing. I'm just about positive I had no list last fall when I got this thing.

Splashed it this morning.....tied 'er up at my dock...and she's got a pretty fair list to starboard and aft now.

No excessive weight in the boat...basically empty......with empty water tank on the port side. I did have the water tank full last year.

Surely SeaRay didn't design this thing to list...and then level out once I've taken on water in the tank????????

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

How are your batteries laid out?

I was suprised I didn't have any listing issues after adding my holding tank, but I took into account the weight I was adding where, and distributed (ballasted) by repositioning the batteries.

Bare in mind, the 268s are extemely heavy to the STBD (Head, Galley, Mid cabin, and the nice heavy bench helm Seat) That being said, she may list of there isn't enough counter weight to the Port.

Just my 2 cents.

I'll start by filling the water tank today and seeing what it looks like. wife won't be much help...she's pretty little.

perhaps I'll look at relocating my starboard battery over to the port side with the other one as well.

thanks.

BlewbyYou is correct, the 268's are a bit heavy to starboard with all that "stuff" to one side. When mine gets splashed, she's empty and you can notice a slight list to stbd as well....as soon as I fill the water tank, she sits fine...
btw: both of my batt's are on the port side....

I filled my tank and that brought 'er back a fair bit.

when I get a chance I'll take a look at moving the stb batt to port...and I'm considering a 3rd batt to power my inverter which I'll put on the port side as well. that should settle 'er right in nice and level I would expect.

Same prob with my 260. Wasn't much say port side had a cpl of inches of air under swim deck, an starboard side was flush with water . Filling water tank almost did it. I removed my hot water heater an n it's place added another battery an sits perfect now.

My 300DB listed to the port side (holding tank, genset, fridge, AC......) I put 300lbs of ballast on the starboard side...... she's level now.

I always keep my water tank full and had both my batteries on the port side. When I sold the boat the new owner stopped filling the tank and it listed for the rest of the season. Pissed me off.

I was going to name my boat ILEAN when i got it.

The PO had 3 batterries in it with 2 on the starboard side.
All 3 were starting batterries too, not sure what he was thinking

I removed 1 of them and moved the other starboard side battery forwards as far as i could and she leveled out nicely with the water tank full.

Mine still leans a tad with 2 batteries to port, any suggestions on a ballast? A cpl of lead bricks would do the trick not sure where to source an I bet shipping would b a ton. Was also thinkin lead shot to reload with would work seems they come in 25 lbs bags, but worry if I dont notice if bags get warn the mess would b daunting.
Any other thoughts?

I have the same list. I went to Home depot, got 4 bags of play sand, and put them in the under steps compartment in the rear berth... That took care of mine no problem.

Still in the bags BTW... LOL

I think it's the weight of the Head, and galley that makes these early 80's dancers list to the right. Mine and yours are not the only ones I have seen doing it.

My boat lists to starboard as well when the water tank is empty. Correcting the list was the cheapest fix since I bought the boat last year. :)

Honestly, it's amazing that back in the early 80's they were able to sell them new like that. Can u imagine 30 g's down on a brand spanking new 83 260da, doin ur sea trial only to find it's listing to one side???lol

I now have 3 batteries on the port side....then when the water tank is full it sits pretty level. As the tank empties...naturally it begins to list a bit again...but I'm not terribly worried about it any more. "shrug"

Was all excited, for a moment. I don't have that stow compartment n my boat. Dammitt. Back to the bilge.

A friend of mine has a 1987 268 454/Alpha1 and it has listed since new. I was shocked when he told me that. My 270 is perfectly level. I always check my boot stripe to make sure I'm not sitting low in the water, Mike.
