340 SUNDANCER THREAD

My dealer had one in stock for $118. Any suggestions on finding spares for cheaper pricing. The lowest price I saw on the net was about $96 bucks.
Also where is that spongy filter? can it be cleaned and re-used or does simply need to be replaced?

Not sure where you can get IAC cheaper than dealer, but if you find out, I'd like to know as well. BTW, you can also buy the "spong filter" thru dealer separately.

Has anyone replaced the Raymarine GPS/radar (SL72 I think?) electronics that came with the early 2000's models? I've never liked mine and now all of a sudden it can't read the memory card. I suppose I can get that fixed but am tempted to install the Garmin 740s...the touchscreen is a pretty impressive upgrade.
I should have measured the space before I posted this...not even sure if that model will fit.
But would still like to hear if anyone changed theirs out?

What size TV is that you have mounted on the bulkhead? Looks good.

I have a 2000 340 Sundancer. I just took off the Ray Marine radar replaced the Ray Marine Plotter with a Garmin 4210 ($1,750) and a Garmin VHF 200 series radio. Next I will replace the radar unit with a Garmin. Both are N2K and NMEA campatible so hooking them up is a snap. The chart plotter is super. Took it on a 10 day cruise in the San Juan Islands and it's absolutely accurate. Going for the 2kw radar and will add AIS. I had to do some careful sawing on the hole where the SL 70 display was but the Garmin 4210 just fit. For $400 more you'll be more satisfied with the 10" screen

Thanks D9...I'll check that Garmin 4210 out. It's really the visibility I'm looking for more than the touch screen.

And my flatscreen is a Sony 32". I drilled through the bulkhead into the hatch under the helm for the wires and used the antenna wire from the little flip down screen in the aft cabin to get to the Glomax.

Pot Belly Exhaust. looking to buy a 1999 340 DA it appears to have a common muffler that looks like a pot belly stove.....any thoughts? i have never seen this and i have owned 4 searays... also the dealer says the boat has twin380s i thought that model only came with twin 370s??? any help is appreciated

what you are describing is exactly what need need to find in any 1999-2002 310 and 340. It is a vacuum break, that prevents water ingestion.

thank you.....was this there solution to the water injestion problem that i have heard about???

Re: 340 SUNDANCER THREAD: 2002 340 Sundancer "forward bilge pump"???

Very pleased with my 2000 340. It has the 7.4s but at 3450 I'm at 25-26 mph. That's with 4 people and full tanks. 3450 seems to give me the best gas milage (about 1 mpg) or about 25 gph. Prices are reasonable now. Bought mine a year ago with 450hrs on the motors, A/C, heat, generator, radar etc. Spent 10 days in the San Juan Islands this summer with no problems. Did put in a new chart plotter (Garmin 4210) and will put a new radar and AIS in this coming Spring.

I wish I got one mile a gallon... I am closer to .8...

Hello all,

My name is Sam and I am in the very final stages of closing the purchase of a new-to-me '01 340 Sundancer with T-7.4 Mag Horizons. Here is a link to the sales add so you can see our new toy. http://www.questwatersports.com/2001-sea-ray-340-sundancer--c-738.htm She has only 171 hours on the engines and 27 hours on the gen set. We have had her surveyed and mechanically inspected and she got excellent returns on both and the sea trial went very well also. This is the largest boat I have ever owned or driven but she was surprisingly easy to handle and maneuver.

During our pre purchase research we came across some information about the 2000-2001 6.2 and 7.4 Horizon engines experiencing some water ingestion failures when equiped with the "log style" exhaust. I only bring this up because I saw this thread has some mention of the fix was a change to the water lift fuffler system. Now I'm a bit concerned that we might have been given some bad information on this issue and might want to reconsider our purchase before it is too late. We spoke with the service manager at the dealership and also with our local mechanic about this issue (this boat has the log style exhaust) and have been lead to believe this issue is/was central to salt water boats due to manifold and riser corrosion. During the inspection and the survey, there was no sign of any water ingestion issues on either motor and the compression tests were well within specs (150 high and 140 low) for both engines. Should I be overly concerned about this issue? Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Other than that, we cant wait to get her. If all goes as planned, we will close the deal next week, and have the dealer winterize, wrap and dry store her for the winter. We will pick her up in the spring and drive her home. It should be a great trip...232 miles straight down stream on the Illinois river to our marina which is just off the confluence of the Illinois and Mississippi rivers.

Thanks again for any help and/or advise and I look forward to making many new friendships on this site.

Sam
