40 sedan bridge forum

Hello
I hope you guys can help in gloving my issue 96 searay sedan bridge
I have water coming into the storage box under the guest room and were the grsyv water tank area
it seems it's when I plug the water directly into the boat or wine I use the water pump too
any suggestion will be appreciated
There are a whole bunch of fresh water line fittings on the stringer next to the shower sump. One of those might be leaking.

The wife and I didn't like the AC blowing right on our faces when we slept. This little mod is working perfectly to divert the airflow.

I have a better solution to changing the genny impeller.....my wife does it. It sounds like it's not as involved on my boat as on yours, but it would still take me about 15 minutes to wiggle my butt back on the stbd outboard side of the genny, 5 minutes to get the faceplate off, 10 minutes to remove the old impeller, 10 minutes to put the new one in and get the faceplate back on, then 15 minutes to wiggle my butt back out.

My wife is in, impeller changed, and back out in about 20-25 minutes. Gotta love being married to a gnome-size person when it comes to work on the boat.

Here's my boat photo to share. Taken by a friend last July in that "golden hour" before sunset while we started out on an evening cruise with the staff of Junior Achievement on board. I've been a JA volunteer for 20+ years.

yes. Exactly. And I just used a little bit of heavy duty plastic Velcro stuff to hold it on. No screws were used that would damage the wood.

On my boat the covers were of a twist on/off variety. If I remember correctly counter clockwise would remove the cover. Then there was a plate with a few screws to simply remove and the light assembly would come out (assumes OEM lights). I have since changed mine to led versions.

The 3 lights in the overhead cockpit area, how do they come apart?

Rotate counter clockwise about 10-15 degrees. They can really get stuck. There is paint in there and a soft gasket that adds turning friction. On two of mine I had to use big channel locks with a rag (to protect the surface) to turn them. Once they turn all the way then they pull straight down. That part can be an adventure as well. I actually used a can opener on one of mine to leverage it downward.

Quick poll:

Cockpit Carpet, to be or not to be?

(I consider it akin to bathroom carpet)

When carpet gets wet, it stays wet. I have infinity flooring (woven vinyl) and I am (mostly) happy with it.

I'd like to change mine for new ones, I'd like to install the stainless steel with led, did you only change the bulb or you found a new light fixture that fits the exiting ?
If someone did an upgrade to it, love to see a picture and where to buy it.

I replaced the halogen bulbs with side pin G4 LED bulbs from MarineBeam. Kept the fixtures.

I'm changing my engine impellers for the first time and I can't get it out. Is something holding it in as it won't budge.

You can try spraying water and dawn soap to help reduce any friction. I can tell you that I still had a hard time getting it out and ended up buying the T handle.

Buy a bolt with the same size thread. Use your new impeller to make sure you have the correct size bolt. Screw it in the old impeller and it will push out. Easy peezy once you have the bolt. Nearly impossible without it.

The bolt size is 3/4 x 16. It is a metric bolt. I believe the bolt I purchased is 2" in length.

It isn't metric....just a standard NF thread but the 3/4" - 16 tpi size is correct.

I have made a few removal tools using 3/4-16 all thread rod then inserting a 1/4" drive socket in the end so you can start the thread then use a 1/4" ratchet to jack the impeller out of the housing. The T-handle wrench from Sherwood may not work on all Sea Ray's with Cat or Cummins engines because there isn't enough room to position the T-handle in front of the seawater pump due to filter brackets, oil pressuer senders, etc. In that case, the 2" bolts will get the impeller almost all the way out of the pump housing and you can then grasp 2 impeller valves 180˚ apart on opposite sides of the impeller near the hub with needle nose plier and pull the impeller the rest of the way out.
