Replaced on a 420DA with an Isotherm. Will get the model tomorrow.

Benntt

I installed an Isotherm Cruise 49 Elegance....it was a direct fit. 12v wiring was directly behind the unit so install was 30 minutes. Runs on 110v or 12v. Did have to trim the opening maybe 3/4" total. We had no use for the ice maker and love the fridge in the cockpit. It has been installed for 18 months and never defrosted. The little freezer is great as well, just small.

I followed someone leads and cut insulation to cover the salon window and can tell you first hand that it was a good $45 spent. I expected it to look worse from the inside. It was off white on the back of my all black sunshade anyway.

I am happy with this and hope it keeps the inside cooler with less burden on my aging AC system.

Are they slots cut in over your microwave? Is that for venting fridge and microwave? New owner, I've been told this is a problem. Thanks

No, I don’t need a great seal. But when we have the dogs up there we do close it. So we don’t want it rattling. Like you say, we just want enough for a soft cushion - and I want to make sure it’s thick enough to make contact between the surfaces. I doubt they are perfectly square. There are likely tolerance differences across the hatch, so the gasket has to be thick “enough” to account for that. That’s what we will learn in the AM!

I removed mine and cleaned well and put 8 rubber stoppers around where the seal was. Supports the door off the floor

Can anyone tell me if the table mount on the bridge is through bolted that need to be accessed through the salon or just screws from the top?

Mine is just screwed in from the top. I know that because my table base cracked and I had to replace it. Sourcing it was damn near impossible. I probably bought three or four that I thought would fit and match the hole pattern. None of them did. I ended up going to Marine Max and just buying it from them using the sea ray part number.

I have an 03 as well so I hope the same. I'll put a little more on pressure on the screws then. I appreciate it.

Make sure you have the right size screwdriver. If you don’t have a large one you may strip the heads. You might also want to hit the screws with some PB blaster and let it sit for a while. You can also heat the screws as that might break any thread locker that might be there. And my personal favorite: smack the head to the screws with a rubber hammer. That can help to break loose any corrosion.

Need help... Thinking of buying a 1999 400 SB, but it needs at least one new engine. Current engines are the CAT 3116. Since the boat is a good price, I'm thinking of a repower. Want opinions on whether it would be a better replacement to go with CAT (7.1 @ 450hp), or switch to Cummins, and see if I can find some reman Diamond Series 450's. I'm not sure the mounts are the same for either the CAT 7.1 or the Cummins going from the 3116. Also, what are some other things I need to think about other than Tranny's as well.

If you went with the Cat 3126 engines, they should be pretty similar to the 3116s but later versions had the higher HP. Maybe Frank - @fwebster can give you specific info.

Have you worked out how to get the old engines out, one post I saw talked about cutting open the cockpit floor, surely not. Those long cranes the yards use to reach in with entry doors removed hopefully would be enough, I’m Intrigued anyway and would love to watch the project if you do it, YouTube channel ? Props are not cheap if you have to change them. Can you re manufacture the existing bad engine ?

Thanks, I didn't even think about the 3126, which is kind of a brain fart because I've known about them for a while as well. I only know that they were 420hp, did later versions have even higher HP ?

I'm assuming engines would be pulled by cranes, but I'm guessing that's a question I'll have to consider as well, thanks for the heads up. I know a friend who worked on the 400, but I don't think he ever took the engines out.

What kind of a problem? The hits keep stacking up!

Can't you just remove the sofas in the salon and lift them out of the salon floor with a forklift?

Or cut a hole in the side!

I’m not aware of any problem with the microwave or fridge.
That's why I quoted & asked him. I don't know of a problem either, but we've only had the boat for one year. He said he heard it was a problem. I am curious to see what the problem could be. I'm definitely not surprised that there could be a problem or if there is a problem for sure.

I've never done a repower and I don't own the boot (yet) lol... I'm assuming someone on here might have done a repower on the 400 SB and could chime in. I'd be interested to know, but even if not, I'm sure taking most of the parts off the engine and then getting the blocks out would be the way to go without having to cut into anything.

I think the first thing to be answered is exactly what is wrong with the engine that you say it needs a repower?
