410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Ken,
Are you still using the original Protech 4 model 1240 charger?
No, I switched to a 60 amp Pronautic charger. I did have to upgrade all of the wiring though.

I think Mott is wondering the same thing I am. Why are the engines pulling from the opposite tanks? Just curious.
I think he was wondering why the port motor pulls from the starboard tank and vice versa

Ok guys, I can't figure this out. My generator (Westerbeke 7.6 BTD) runs rough and wants to shut off for lack of fuel after I burn about 30 gallons of diesel off the port tank. When I add more fuel, all issues go away. Is it possible the fuel pickup is that short or it has a hole in it? That is the only thing I can think of. If that is what the problem is, any idea of where to source a replacement or how to repair?

A thought - you may have a slight air leak in the Racor filter or hoses. The Racor location is about at that 30 gallon level and when the fuel is above it there is positive supply pressure; when fuel level below the generator lift pump is pulling negative pressure on the system which could allow air bubbles into the fuel.
There is a thread where someone had a plastic siphon tube provided (possibly Florida Marine Tank) that slips inside of the tank tube and resolved a broken or corroded tube issue. However that siphon tube couldn't be in a worse place to get to on that fuel tank; I have a hard time getting to the shut-off valve.
Another note the generator siphon tube does not go completely to the bottom of the fuel tank from what I understand; they did that to ensure the generator does not run the fuel tank completely empty.

Still can't get the table post out of the 5 leg base. Won't pull out. Tried using a dead blow mallet it started to break the plastic in the post. Any ideas?

Riptide, on my old boat, the cockpit table post would get stuck. I drilled two small holes opposite each other and I was able to put a screwdriver through the post to pull up and twist. Would that work for you?

I have had hour battles with the cockpit table pole that goes into the hole in the cockpit floor as well as the one that inserts into the salon table base. I have tried drilling a hole in it and using a screwdriver to twist and pull it out. I have tried rocking back and forth to pull the pole out. I have dropped ice down the pole thinking it would contract and come out easier.

Season after season, I have battled these poles. One time I was pulling on it (no pun intended) and it suddenly came out, almost putting a hole in my forehead.

Ok, now for the fix. I should file a patent for this very technical genius of a solution :). It is very complicated so read carefully and follow the steps in order:

Step 1 - Buy a box of wax paper.
Step 2 - Wrap one layer around the pole end before inserting into base.
Step 3 - remove pole whenever you want, with little to no effort.
Step 4 - put new sheet of wax paper on pole when old wax paper gets ripped

One box of wax paper will last longer than the boat.

Good luck,

Jeff

Does anyone know the original manufacturer and model number of the polished brass swivel reading (valance) light fixtures in the cabin of the 410's? Or, a suitable replacement that uses G4 bulbs?
Previous owner changed one of the fixtures in the forward cabin. The fixture he put in (although not a perfect match)is polished brass, and works well enough, but it has a very bright white LED bulb hard wired in to it. I'm changing the G4 bulbs in the other 5 fixtures to warm white LED and even if I can't get an exact match for the odd fixture, I'd like to at least put the same bulb in it.

Home Depot in the garden lighting section. Has 10 W LED bulbs that fit the fixtures, they are warm white. They are about $6 each but work well.

Super bright LED has some single LED g4 base bulbs that should work as well. They look to be the same lumens as the 10W bulbs and are a bit shorter. They are $3 each.

Got the bulbs already. Looking for a replacement fixture.

Thanks guys. Finally got the pole out. Will use he wax paper trick I. The future.

Thanks! Did you replace your reading lamp fixtures? If so: What did your old ones look like and do you still have them? If they match mine I would be interested in buying one from you. I like the original fixtures. And already have the replacement Warm White Led bulbs for them, but the old owner of the boat replaced one of the 6 fixtures with a non matching one that has fixed LED light in it that can't be removed for replacement. So I would really just like to replace it with one that matches the other 5.

No I did not replace mine; they are all in very good condition. I saw those when I was buying fixtures for the cockpit and G4 LED lamps at this vendor. I just remember seeing them and thought they may work for you. One not matching would eat me from the inside out BTW..... Have you tried Founder Pounder and Great Lakes Skipper?

Yes, tried both with no luck. Honestly, I've never been able to find anything from either one of them.

Jvm, can you post a picture of what you are looking for? I bought a whole box of light fixtures, probably 20, from a member that had a 1999 460, I only needed a couple lenses and some springs. but I think I might have what you are looking for. They are just sitting in a box so let me know.

That would be great!
Can't post pictures anymore since photobucket got crazy, but I can email you a picture if you send me an email to my user name at AOL. Or if you go to DRSA.com and look at the "Cedar Key" fixture you'll see the stainless version of what I am looking for. I need the polished brass version of "Cedar Key". I spoke with DRSA already and they don't make the polished brass version anymore.
