410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Cabinet removal is not that big of a deal. Maybe a couple of hours removal and hour to reinstall on my 410. Went with Vitrifrigo. No regrets.

So just completing a 160nm run to mile Block Island RI, my port engine shutdown as I'm just about to go into the inlet. Everything is dead, no power at 12v panel down below. Gauge, no power...no thunk when you hit the started switch. Played around with all sorts of things and the power goes back on. Restart and on the hook. Looking for faults, nothing.
After a few days at BI, off to Martha's Vineyard. Enroute, repeats 2 more times. Put together a power lead to the fuel SV and off I go with no more shutdowns. At MV, replace the starter switch and check all the wiring plugs....returning to BI, trips out again so back to the power lead. Boat runs great on the lead.

Any suggestions? Is there a wiring schematic in the owners documentation?

I have CAT 3116TA diesels. If you find schematics for the boat let me know. I recently had similar issue but engine would crank but no thunk from the fuel solenoid. It ended up being the little square black relay under the start solenoid on top of the engine near the tranny cooler. I replaced both the relay ($6) and the start solenoid - when I wrecked the one on the engine trying to check the terminals the engine would no longer crank ($40). Before that I had a loose wire in my DC panel where the engine switches are. That was also keeping one engine from cranking. Let us know when you solve it.

Another little tidbit...the dash amp gage would jump around before it shutdown
Sounds like a loose connection somewhere. Start at the batteries and work your way to the panels. My loose connection was behind the DC breaker panel by the battery switch. Use a multimeter and you will find it.

Found it...left the switch on with no thunk. Engine rm...relay brought thunk back so took it apart and tightened spade connectors. Turned batts on...no thunk. Found loose wire under main lead to starter...12 gage or so. Case closed! Thanks for suggestions!

hey ezsteps what is your fuel consumption on your 400 with gas? mpg or gph and at what RPM. Looking at a 2000 410 with 496HO motors and trying to figure out gas. Soru diesel boys this guy cant afford the smoke...
I replied to your pm. To give you a simple answer here though (.75 mpg).

cscarpaci, there is a ton of knowledge here. If you want to read the help I got when I started looking for my 400, go back in this thread to November 15th 2015, page 35, posts start at #691. Good Luck

Thanks Ezsteps for the information.. I see you wen thru the same thing and looks like you looked at the same boat I am looking at.

All I am looking for a clean low hour (as is anyone else) 400/410, prefer Diesel but will consider gasser. I think clean is the priority, if the hours are higher. Any help would be great. Also upgrading from our 92'370DA if anyone is interested....

410 Sundancer with 3126 Caterpillar owners:
What diameter/pitch props are you running and why?
After hearing some stories about lost valuable boating time waiting for a prop after a mid season mishap I’m thinking about picking up a spare set to get me quickly back on the water if it ever happens to me.
My boat has Hy Torq Nibral 22 x 21.5 cupped props on it. Not sure if they are original, or what Sea Ray originally put on the boat.
The boat runs well with them.
But since I’m thinking of picking up another set over the winter I figured I’d see what others had and why.

Just last week I posted results from the first trip I did with a gasser 400. Link below. I don't believe there to be a significant difference between the 7.4 and 8.1 in terms of economy. They are both thirsty buggers.

At the Colony Boat show at Algonac Harbour Club, Colony had a 2000 400 Sundancer Diesel that appeared to be in fantastic shape. Should be at the Metro Boat Show this weekend if it hasn't sold yet.

Hi Guys
Ever since I have owned this boat ( 410 EC with 6CTA ) the Systems Monitor has shown Data Link Failure . Finally the dash got soaked and the alarm is now working an driving me crazy .
I'm trying to restore the data link thru the Coax Cable but have no idea where the module is. I looked in the bilge everywhere but cannot find the coax cable .

Any Ideas ??? Its hidden pretty well ....or I'm just blind

Thanks

Anyone with a 1997 400 DA put SeaDek on the upper and lower swim platform? Looking for someone who may have a template or worked with a source that made one up that can do the same for me. Thanks!
