410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

To Nick Hadel:
My 99 400DA shows 2000+ hours on both tach's. I had a tech with a laptop with merc software plug into the ECM's to get actual engine run hours. Both motors showed around 320 hours actual run time. The techometer hour meters run whenever the keys are turned on at the control panel. I leave my keys on all day and just float on the lake using no motors.

Have you confirmed this directly? I do not believe the hour meters are supposed to run if the engines are not running.

I'm looking to get a tender to use on the Lopp in a year or so. What sizes do others on this thread have? And what types of davits work the best on a 400DA?

Thanks for the help

I've got a 10'6" tender. Fits nicely on our swim platforms. Davits are very much personal preference but will be heavily influenced by your choice of tender and engine (overall weight)...

My hour meters run when the keys are on and the dash rockers are in the ON position. I discovered that one night after a run and I had apparently bumped a dash rocker to the ON position while I was hanging the isin. The warning tone wasn’t in the mood to sound that night, but finally kicked-in during the middle of the night. That meter had advanced 4 hours.

I have a 10foot hard bottom with a 15 hp mercury 4 stroke. If I could do it Over I would go lighter. 8 foot with a good used 2 stroke and save a 70 or so pounds out on the swim platform

we have a 10ft inflatable floor zodiac that's very light but even though the floor is 12PSI and very stable in the water, the 9hp 2 stroke on the transom weighs 80 pounds and in a decent sea (with the ramp style davits) I can see the stress on the tubes while it flexes. I want to go to a rib next for the solid bottom

Ahh, that makes sense. With the rockers on, hour meters run. I suppose if you have a really outstanding sound system maybe you'd be able to ignore the warning beeper...or if you keep it in gear while parked to keep it from sliding back down the hill :)

It really comes down to how you use your boat.
I had a heavier 10’ with a 9.9 Mercury 4 stroke and found it too heavy to put on and off the platform on the days we wanted to take it with us.
Sold the inflatable, and still have the 2017 outboard sitting in my shed with about 1 hour on it. One of these days I’ll get around to selling it.
When the time comes to get another dinghy setup it will be the lightest 8’ I can find and it will be paired with a good used 5 HP 2 stroke.
That’s all I need for the way we boat.

The prior owner installed a Seawise davit system on the back of my 400 Sundancer. At first I thought I was going to remove it, but after using it I absolutely love it. I have a 10' AB Aluminum bottom with a Merc 15 2-stroke on the back. I have already ordered a Suzuki 20 4-stroke for it that only weighs 12-15 lbs more than the Merc.

I'll bet a little more research will show your 15hp 2stroke weighs about 79lbs and the 20 4stroke weighs 125lbs. If not I will have to trade my Mercury for a Suzuki.

The 15/20 Suzuki 15” manual start motors are 97 lbs so it’s 18 lbs different exactly. My friend owns the Suzuki dealer out this way.

There is no weight difference between the 15 or 20 and you can get the Suzuki in all white to match the boat.

That's pretty light. My 15 Mercury is 125lbs. It's a pig. I want to go back to my 15 two stroke. It was about 78 lbs. Better yet smaller rib and 8 hp two stroke

Usually both. If ac power is available, that is preferred by the fridge. If no AC power, then DC.

There is an AC breaker on the panel, can’t recalll were the DC on is.

ac/dc converter is known to fail.

My “Refrigerator“ breaker is labeled that way on the 110 volt panel, and on the 12 volt panel below it.
I wasn’t sure they were both working together I’m still trying to find everything on the new boat and how it works
Thank you

Not sure if all the 410’s are the same, but on mine the same breakers are for both fridges.
If your fridges are original, there is probably a small green indicator light on the bottom of each that is visible with the doors closed that will let you know you have power.
You can double check if your 110 volt and 12 volt “Refrigerator” breakers control both by flipping those breakers on and off individually.
