460 DA Owners Thread

WOW. So you are an electrician also. What haven't you done on her? I am ordering 4 now. Thank you.

Although I can wire a house and just about anything 12vdc, I left that job to a Certified Marine Electrician! There was no way I was risking any mistakes I might make to a fire. Not to mention, a later survey that gets flagged for something. I helped the electrician pull the wires, but that was the extent of my input other than the idea. :)

Hey guys,
Regarding the slide bolt aluminum insert, would you mind sending a message to my inbox with full name and address. That will be the best way for me to keep track as the orders are coning in. I am going to wait until the end of the month to place it as a batch order and see if we can save a couple bucks.
Thanks!!
Bill

Hi Jeff,
I ordered 4 of those here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002IV8JUW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
2 for the deck and 2 for the hull.

The electrical is a 50 amp power cord for the boat. We always bow into the slip wherever we go and I got tired of lugging 75' of 50 amp cord with me...now I only need a 25' cord and it is an easy connection. In the fwd. stateroom there is a 50 amp breaker inline, then it goes to a selector switch in the salon. The selector switch options between stern power and bow power. All other panel switches for generator etc. stay the same. It is really slick!!!
Dammit @TheWolfTC . Now I have to get those drain plugs! Man I need to stay off this forum!

Side note-my forward power is similar as Wolf-except mine has the switch from rear to forward power in the rear hatch compartment by the power windlass. Supposedly mine was added at the factory. I just need to get a 25ft cable like Wolf has since the boat didn't have one when I got it a couple of months ago .....yes Wolf this cost isn't on you so we are good LOL!!

How do we do that--message to your inbox?

I am sure most everyone has already done this, but just in case...

I hated the amount of dirt buildup we would get on the bow below the drains from the foredeck "walk around" area. The black dirt eyebrows, as I called them, sucked to clean. I know, I know...you guys are like...damn he is OCD!! LOL

When I installed the SS drain through hulls, I also installed, clear 1-1/2" hose to push the drain water away from the gel. The dirty wash/rain water now drops into the lake as opposed to running down the bow to the water line. No more cleaning the bow in this area!!

Those look nice Wolf. When I had my 410DA I had stainless steel tube welded from the back side of the fitting that protruded out about 5/8" or so. I'm so OCD that not only didn't I want the "black dirt eyebrows", but I didn't want the dirty tubes sticking out of my hull either.

Yeahhhh, I have to clean the tubes out on occasion. I might need to get with my buddy that has the machine shop and come up with some SS insert's. :)

I promise this is no where near the rabbit hole that Schluter trim ordeal was!

Hey all.....Happy New Year!!! Been looking for a boat for a few months now and am really liking the 460. I've been reading this thread from the start and am about a year behind the end right now. I can hardly wait to see what happens when Covid arrives, please no spoilers, LOL. That being said, I am going to look at a potential candidate tomorrow and have learned of a large insurance claim made 2 years ago for hull damage. It was repaired and all records are available. I am more of a car guy and know how that would affect cars but am curious if this is something that would cause you guys to run away from without looking back? Would it drastically affect resale or just something to bargain with?

Welcome... Yes Covid gets real crazy!!!
As far as your damage question too many variables to give you an answer. Need more details like was it damage from an accident and what was the actual damage? Like anything else you would have to put a value on what happened and how it was repaired. Just like a dirty car fax on a car. At least they are disclosing, boats are not like cars and hard to find out about claims.

Thanks for the reply. I will hopefully get more story and information tomorrow.

Great, share the info and you will get plenty of opinions and guidance

Josh,
Welcome to the club,... almost. There are many London area people at our marina, Bridgeview. The past two seasons there were two 460s here and another one over at Sarnia Bay. My neighbour's 460 is for sale with St. Clair Boat Sales and it's a pretty solid example. PM me if you want.

Hi Jaws,

Thanks for the welcome. I'm very excited to hopefully be joining this elite group. Small world, I have a buddy with a sailboat at Bridgeview and called them a few weeks ago when I thought I had bought another boat to see if there is room for me. It is where we plan to be this summer. Where are you in there and maybe I'll try and keep the 460s together? I've noticed many of your posts throughout this thread so I may be knocking on your door before you know it for help and advice. I know the boat you are referring to and it looks pristine but I'm pretty sure it has been sold.

I went to see a different 460 today that I mentioned in my post and am happy to say the hull damage claim doesn't scare me. The story apparently is that a neighboring boat hit it while trying to dock and the owners came back to find a gash in the gelcoat. No structural damage was caused and the boat was professionally repaired. Now the boat itself was a bit dirty but overall seems well taken care of with a few small items that I believe can be lived with or easily repaired. On deck I noticed a crack in the dash but assume that little cracks here and there are common in a 15-20 year old boat. Down below I noticed that the galley cabinets were showing signs of splitting as if they swelled from moisture. Has anyone seen this before? Otherwise I think my family can see spending the summer on it. If anyone has any thoughts, I am all ears.

Josh,
Happy to help. I messaged you.
With thirteen seasons of ownership I think I can speak with experience about this model. Still love it and they just don't build them like this any longer. The swelling or splitting of the cabinetry might need further investigation though. We don't have that situation and also, take some photos of the areas of concern if you can. Your 460 gang can chip in for help.
