aluminum cans in ocean?

Be careful to whom you cast aspersions of idiocy if in doing so, you mis-spell pail, my friend.

I’m guessing the trash can is a natural unpainted environmentally friendly pale color.

Just for the record, we don’t leave anything behind on purpose.

This thread reminds me of the time my buddy dropped a dollar into an old fashioned outhouse at a highway rest stop. He swore, opened his wallet, pulled out a $20 bill then tossed the $20 in too.

I said “You idiot, why did you do that?” He replied “You didn’t think I was going to go down there just to get a dollar, did you?”

timinfla2,
What is your point in defending throwing trash out? I get it that you don't do it but give it a rest. You have stirred some emotions here and need to accept the concequences. And your "tiny little brain" & "aspersions of idiocy" rant is quite revealing even if it is a "pissing contest" & a "shortsighted attack on me". If you think there are some members here who aren't as enlightened as you and therefore have no business posting well KMA. Hope I did not mispell anytheng.

Hey Cap, I'm here to have fun with a group of very good dudes that I've met on here and sometimes we throw ideas back and forth. We have a great time doing it and it keeps us coming back for more.

To use your words, what's revealing is that you were able to pack so many logical blunders about the nature of this post in a few short sentences.

Show me where anybody, let alone I,defended throwing trash overboard. The only advocate of throwing trash overboard is the USCG so long as you are 12 miles out - if you don't like it, write your congressman.

Further, I hated that the discussion deteriorated toward personal attacks, and if you notice, not once did I ever personally attack anybody in my posts - that is, until they took the opportunity to preemptively do it to me. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

And then we get to the part of your post that demonstrates just what a mental giant you are. At no time have I EVER claimed intellectual high ground among my friends here. I come here with more questions than I do answers and these guys on here are some of the smartest I've ever met and/or conversed with in my life. I've never posted a question on here that couldn't get answered, and the beauty is you get a variety of options and answers - that is what makes posting on here so valuable.

For anybody to suggest that there is only one answer to a question with no discussion to be had, and that all here are to toe the line or face personal attacks for not doing so is anathema to what this board is all about - OPEN DISCUSSION!!!

Cap, you severely underestimate the amount of respect I have for the non-trolls of this board and severely overestimate your ability to divine my intentions for posting on here from just one thread. But instead of keeping that to yourself, you instead tell me to 'KMA'. I'm not a mental giant like yourself, but I guess I can figure out that acronym, and honestly, I do feel a bit bad for you. How can you automatically assume the worst from people? What a pessimistic life you must lead. So in order to make you feel better, I will be willing to KYA as soon as you remove your head from it, so as not to present any clearance issues.

-Tim

For the record, you misspelled 'consequences, missspell (WTF?), and anything. :smt009 I really hope that was your sense of humor coming through...

I just need to see if Merc can make outdrives out of beer cans.

Hey Todd, I've seen them make hats and little model airplanes from them... Maybe there's a biz idea there! Get on board with the hunk of iron in the can and you guys will be the next environmental czars appointed by the Anointed One.

Just get me a ride on Airforce One!

This thread, in my mind, goes to the top 3 of classic threads here. Very entertaining.

Won't even address the original subject matter.

I think that this "edgy entertainment" is a mere spin-off from off-season boating cabin fever. I think that you will find that it is an annual phenomenon that will soon wane after we turn our attention to more important things such as the new boating season. Get those veins back into your foreheads lads and go back to your corners. I feel that we all have good intentions here, so let's call call this one a draw and let this thread die before there is some senseless blood-letting.

Couldn't agree more, Ken - that's probably the most perceptive post thus far - mea culpa, let's all be buds. I'll buy everybody here a virtual beer - gladly a real one if you guys are on any of the trips coming up.

In an effort to encourage camaraderie this beer may be fitting

To: timinfla2. What kind of fool are you! Sure, throw your beer cans in the water, I don't care if it's fresh or salt. You are an idiot!! Take your boat on an inland pond and drive it around, no one will complain except the fish! If you have enough ***** to respond, here's my email mrm822@comcast.net. I'm waiting.

:smt100 oooo an email fight. How...errrr...mature?

Anyway, I am guilty of sinking a beer bottle now and then. Nothing else has ever been thrown overboard. I guess I didnt think about the bottle. It seems innocent enough: it just sinks to the bottom and stays more or less put in the cove. I guess potentially it could break and a shard could wash ashore. I will stop doing it.

Now I feel really bad. Maybe I can do some kind of cool mod for bottle disposal. Let me get to work on it.

I luv all the passion on both sides. So now I'm in the frey...

Timinfla2. It's obvious we don't like you're pontificating and slandering. My email is there if you want to respond. I bet you don't!

And I bet you're right I don't bother responding to your personal email address, as I'm well beyond 12 years old - but I bet NAMBLA will. Enjoy the newsletter, friend.

Legal or not, why throw it in the water? I was snorkelling in the Caribbean two weeks ago, and was amazed at how much plastic debris was just floating in the currents all over the reef. Big pieces, little pieces, tiny pieces. It is everywhere.

Dropping your sunglasses over the gunwale by accident, throwing your blackberry in the drink out of rage, or losing your cooler in high seas are all understandable. Tossing an empty six-pack of Schiltz into the drink is just senseless.

If you're interested in the science side of this thread (as it relates to plastic), read this article: http://discovermagazine.com/2008/jul/10-the-worlds-largest-dump
They don't make Schlitz in cans any more. Only bottles.

"I dare you to e-mail me" just doesn't have the same impact as "how 'bout lets step outside". Moose you ain't got a bandana tied around your head right now, do you? This is funny stuff, keyboard Ninjas.:smt024 EEeeYaa, take that you bully.:smt043
