aluminum cans in ocean?

...So why does an outdrive corrode like there is no tomorrow? Because it's acting like a battery and Aluminum is very happy to give up it's electrons when there is a less noble metal around like steel and an electrolyte. So if you want the aluminum can to give up electrons and dissolve the same way, you should require that the can manufacturers weld a piece of steel to the can so the aluminum will disolve away like a bravo III drive. Maybe you can patent this idea then lobby the government to pass a law that all aluminum cans have this "fast disolving anti-pollution technology" and you can own the rights to it and make billions....

So maybe the solution is to throw more metal in the ocean, and maybe also to electrify the ocean to accelerate the Aluminium corrosion......but maybe not because it would also do big damage to all the Merc Bravo III drives out there.

Seriously, what is the big deal of having a thrash can somewhere in the cockpit, not more effort to put the cans there than throw it overboard.

mmmmmm

I take this out into Prince William Sound in Alaska all the time.

Do I need to be concerned about it melting under my feet???

What a dumb a$$........................

You need to bolt some steel plates on that aluminum boat and report back what happens.

B.S. I guess you didn't read the previous thread regarding how long it takes aluminium cans to disintergrate. Besides ALUMINNUM as an element in its pure form is organic, but after it has been manufactured becomes something diffrerent. Bottom line, the freaking ocean is NOT a garbage dump!!! Save your beer cans for the hobos!!!

I really don't have a dog in this fight, but, I would like to keep things factual form a scientific basis.

With all due respect, Aluminum is an element and is inorganic by definition. Organic (go back to your Chemistry) is associated w/ some form of carbon (i.e. Carbon based life forms for you Trekkies). Aluminum is most often found in bauxite ore and is the most abundant metal in the earth's crust.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

There was another guy here that used to toss his bottles in the water:

Now this is just funny! I laughed for 5 min. I just realized I have not seen the AFLAC duck on any new commercials since.

Tim, for any errors in judgement on my part for posting personal remarks for difference of opinions I do apologize. Bad day, not what we are here for.

Now this thread is the one of the best yet. So now I have some questions and some "what I learned today"
1. Outdrives just dissapear yet beer cans last forever.
2. Welding steel to aluminum boats is bad.
3. Wingless Dog toy came back from the dead to humor us all again.
4. We have enriromentalists here that are Al Gore wannabe's. They run around in twin engine boats and that doesn't polute? Ok
5. The internet is like one big CB (Citisens Band) Raido that have Ninjas on them too.
6. I've been drinking beer. (Green Glass Bottle) and spell worse then normal. (See CB above)

Now here are the questions.
1. MOOSE and TIMINFLA2, I see a boxing match in A/C. Any bets? Are you guys gonna show?
Now I was wondering how long the following take to decompose in the ocean.
1. A human body
2. The cement shoes that went with the body
3. A portable Honda Generator
