Two weeks on the hard and we are finally back in the water. Fresh bottom paint, clean gear and a new set of bellows on the PSS shaft seals was all we really needed to address.
Since we had a water intrusion issue on the initial sea trail and were unable to make full power or SOG numbers, this morning during our 1.5 hour run back to Benicia we were able to open her up and see what she would do. All trimmed out at 2650 RPM we saw 22 kts SOG in slack tide and smooth water. Not bad for a 49000 lb floating condo.
Another week or so for the transaction to complete with lawyers and bankers doing there thing and we will be Carver owners.

That thing is a floating palace. Glad to see things progressing for you. I am boat shopping (35-40 range) and its a jungle out there.

Nice job looks like a very nice floating condo. Looking forward to your journey through your customizing with this yacht

Actually this boat is so recently updated I don't really have too many mods in mind other than replacing the davit on the swim platform with something different possibly a Hurley H3O Plus style. I'll try to resist the temptation to bring the engine monitoring digitally to the MFDs for now. Mostly I have a lot cleaning and detailing in the engine room and LED lighting.

Nice boat.

I came across this one once on my boating adventures to a local offshore island. Went wrong side of a navigation marker.

Was dragged off on high tide and drove 20 klms back to the mainland. Must be solid.

I'm not a fan of Carver's generally, but I do like this particular model, especially for near shore usage. Not sure I could get used to that kind of performance though. The 58DB does 31 knots at 2350 RPM, you sorta get used to that kind of speed (well 25kts at 2100 RPM, anyway). Being currently boatless, other than my center console, I'm envious of you. Beautiful boat, best of luck getting it closed and cleaned up.

Generally I was not a Carver enthusiast either and frankly I don't think that will change much. There are several 40 plus Carver MYs in our marina and most of them look junky compared to the Sea Rays and Meridians.
One thing about where we live and boat currently, there really is no destination more than a three to five hour cruise at hull speed away so most of our cruising time is done at 1200 RPM anyway. I do plan on expanding our boating out side the Gate with occasional trips to Santa Cruz or Monterey so I'm sure I'll miss the speed then. I loved the 22 kt cruise speed of the 44 when we had a need to get there in a hurry. I'm quite sure this will be a five year boat for us so I'm glad its an LLC boat so at least when we move up we will be $25 grand ahead in transition costs.

Blueone, maybe I can answer that question. On my boat I couldn't see the transom at all. Backing into my slip, I just learned to keep the hull centered between the finger piers on the sides.

To fix the problem of not being able to see how far I was from the main dock behind me (or maybe that should be "astern" of me) I spray painted a black rectangle (about 3" x 6") on the finger pier on the port side. Then painted a yellow rectangle (2"x4") over the top of that.

I knew when that rectangle was abeam of the helm I was back far enough for my wife to step off the swim platform without having to jump.

@Carpediem44DB How is docking that with what seems very limited visibility ?
Visibility is actually not that bad. I can stand to starboard of the helm with the side bridge window open and see pretty well and with the single lever controls to starboard I can stand at the window and operate the drives and the thruster. I will be building and installing a MY Copilot wireless remote as my first order of business. I already have the system designed although I have yet to install one on a Volvo Powered vessel.
The boat also has a camera on the transom and displayed on either of the MFDs so that should help as well. I actually got to bring it in to the marina and dock it for the first time yesterday. The hired skipper offered to be the deck hand. Getting used to the electronic single lever controls will be the biggest transition for me. The delay seems like an eternity for the gear to engage and if you go beyond the gear engage detent the RPM is elevated immediately and makes for an abrupt gear engagement! Ill just need to stay 2 seconds ahead of the control input is all.

Did you get your LLC issue all figured out? You own it yet????

Just about, there was a little question as to whether or not sales tax was ever paid by the seller at the time he bought it and put together the LLC. Got it all cleared up so now it’s just a few more days of paper flying back and forth, looks like early next week for closing and taking ownership. At least it’s already sitting in my slip which has actually been torturous. I’m itching to get busy making it ours.
Thanks for inquiring

Congrats! Need to change your user name to CarveDiem506... We looked at a 56’ Carver at the boat show (I believe it was an 07?) and really liked the layout. Lower helm was raised, and three short steps up and you are on the forward portion of the flybridge.

We closed today on the Carver! Buying the LLC added a bit of drama and cost but the tax savings and possible advantages to the next buyer down the road will be worth it. I have a long list of projects to start on to personalize the boat, mostly doing a thorough annual service on the engines and Genset and installing a wireless remote. The biggest project will be deciding on which way to go with a dinghy davit as the one on the boarding platform is a bit light for my Achilles center console. So looking forward to getting started. Oh and changing the name form Dock Holiday to TREVI.
Cheers
