CSR Northeast Flotilla 2013

Tom,
You are welcome to use mine. I'm sure others will chime in as well.

No issues.....

While I should have my dingy by the then, it just might not arrive in time. We have two small(15 lb) and old dogs. Lhasa Apsos...very mild mannered and quiet. I was planning to bring the dingy to make the required shore runs for the dogs. In the event it doesn't arrive, would anyone with a dingy mind assisting with a ride to shore while st SI?

Alex,
You mentioned Anchoring while Rafting. Is this different than a typical anchoring (while not rafting)?

Yep, it's anchoring and docking at the same time. If you have never done it lets not experiment with the large raft.

I dont follow you Alex. I've never done it so we don't go in the raft up? I'm confused.

You just drop and set your anchor and then back into your position in the raft and then tie up. Rather than tying up and bringing the anchor out with a dink. It's easier than it sounds.

But, as Alex mentioned, if you've never done it - lets not practice this time. (At least not if your rafted next to me)

Todd,

No, all it means that if you are not comfortable dropping the hook while rafting, let us know and all you will be doing is just rafting (without dropping your anchor).

We will use other boats for dropping their anchors.

The retrieving part could be more challenging though.

So that's how it is, huh Greg? Ok, I got your number! All things being equal I would rather not drop my anchor anyway! That didn't work out so well for me last time!

And considering my anchor is still in its box, I'm not sure how well it will work! Lol

Retrieving is just as important, know how I know? I was pushed over Gerard's anchor line, by wind ,, last week and cut off 100' line ,chain and anchor!!!!!

dude, you need to collinite that deck,,, its filthy

Im pretty goos woth droping and retrieving in a raft as long as there no seriouse wind.
What's colonite? I know I know im ready for the comments on that one so bring em on just make sure u actually tell me what it is while u make the comments

X,

Yeah, I'm not sure on that one. Joe want's to give my boat a colonic? WTF is he talking about??

That was exactly what I've implied. Sorry you had to learn it the hard way, Joe. But, the trick in retrieving the anchor is safely separate from the raft, retrieve your anchor and clear off all other anchors/lines that are still in the water holding remainder of the raft. The wind WILL ALWAYS push back on to the remaining boats in the raft and on to their anchors. If there's any current (it's rare in the places we'll be staying) and it's outgoing tide it might help you a little, but don't ever count on it. If it's incoming tide the force that will push you back on the raft will only be greater.

As Greg said, it's sounds a lot more complicated for those that are new to it, but for those that have done it many times it's just a normal process. As long as you have good control of your vessel it's not a big deal most of the time.

In the raft of 16 or so boats (that's what we have so far), I'd say that we should have no less than 6-8 anchors (with minimum 10:1 scope). Perhaps I should rephrase the question from a different angle and ask who wouldn't mind dropping their anchors to keep the raft safely in place? I'm dropping mine regardless. I think I can definitely count on Greg, Larry and Russ. Anyone else would like to step in?

Im on the heavy side at about 18000# wet so ill be droping mine as well I wouldn't mind having sombody on the radio givinge a little advise while doing so such as how far away to do the initial drop and some guidance on the way in but I should be good all in all. Just a little pointers here and there. I know im new to this so I don't take offense to instructions. I take them as a learning curve.

Sounds good, Jonathan. Thanks for stepping in to the plate.

Anyone else?

Alex, I can definatly be one of the "anchor" boats, as you know I have all chain rode (240'), although I am having second thoughts on deploying my nice new stainless steel anchor!:smt043
Good to see you back too Russ!

I'm at 22.000 # and Alll chain so ill drop also. Alex I was clear of Gerard s boat I was retrieving my anchor nicely but got blown over his line . I tried to move off it but it was too late. you never know what can happen in a minute or two. This was an expensive day "rafting"
