Do I need a working generator?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU,

This is the best source on earth for Sea Ray owners. I am going to fix the generator. All the advice has been thoughtful and well reasoned. The deciding factor was that if I don't run the generator then the engine part of it will also fail. I had two generator guys look at it. They both came up with the same diagnosis.

I'm still trying to find out whose pants got pulled down?

Good Choice & I agree with Bryan, the engine needs to be run or you will develop problems there too. My mechanic, who is also a close friend, has often told me the only generators he has to repair are the ones rarely used. That's why I fire mine up & put a load on it every time I leave the dock! The PO of my boat did the same & so far so good! I hope I didn't just jinx myself! Good luck & keep us posted!

I had the same issue with my westerbeke. Ran perfect but didn't produce electricity. Somebody on this forum told me to pull the capacitor and replace it. So I pulled it brought it to my local westerbeke dealer, bought a new one installed it and at the great price of 80 $ I was back up and running with no issues! Best of luck
